Yeah, I don't view it as a replacement, but as it's own thing it's such a fun arcadey game to just boot up and play through.
I can replay it the same way I can just replay Rondo of Blood whenever I'm in the mood.

Gestural vertex colors quickly and beautifully define characters that pop against the environment and look good small or large onscreen. iNaturalist.org can be an amazing resource for game artists, featuring species id and many public domain community photos of life on Earth! Matcap materials are good for creating shiny or translucent objects while maintaining a simplified/stylized look.

Dragon Quest XI is charming, fun to explore, and has a wonderful cast.
I'm finally back into making this. I super simplified the way the player reacts to getting hit so it's done programmatically instead of a baked animation. It's pretty rudimentary at the moment but the systems are in there for polishing down the line. I also updated the guns to have different VFX.
