For #FossilFriday a skull of the arctocyonid Claenodon ferox from the lower Paleocene (about 62.5 million years ago) Nacimiento Formation. Like many Paleocene mammals, Claenodon had large canines and accomodated huge jaw closing muscles, but the braincase housed a relatively small brain.

The giant planet Jupiter with it's distinctive banded clouds and the Great Red Spot.

Here's an image of Jupiter I captured with my homemade backyard telescope on December 19, 2024. The Great Red Spot and its turbulent wake dominates the southern hemisphere.
