= The Inquirer SUBSCRIBE > $1 for 6 months Though it is the largest city workers union, it is also the lowest-paid of Philadelphia's four major municipal unions, with members earning about $46,000 a year on average. It is also the only union of the big four in which a majority of its members are Black, The Inquirer previously reported.
Call and email Mayor Parker and top City officials to demand they give DC33 workers a fair contract. Calling City officials shows the City you are paying attention and support workers. It also makes it harder for officials to coordinate breaking the strike. I'm focusing my attention on paid research gigs for a moment (which sadly do not cover CSCW workshop attendance) but I will gladly coauthor!! :)

Underlying ICE raids is a surveillance system they are trying to expand in my backyard here in Ypsi. The US is fielding wild stories of detainment right now, informed in part by a racist AI. Friends everywhere: help us stop the expansion @stopthedata.bsky.social
Excited to give a new talk at @labortechresearchnetwork.org this Friday 6/13, 11am ET on Zoom. I'll discuss trans capitalism, funding models behind trans tech, and the unhinged saga of a doomed trans banking app. Info on how to attend: labortechresearchnetwork.org/speaker-series
Everyone's security plans and situations will always be different. But the first step to a better online world is looking at your community and figuring out what's needed and how to get everyone else on board.
Friends, Los Alamos and UoM are trying to build a war machine on my cross street here in southeast Michigan. I need your help!! We are early and this is possible to stop! We need all hands on deck @stopthedata.bsky.social

As with all other things, I hope that I left this place a little better than how I found it!
Today I submitted to the registrar the last grades of my career as an academic. I feel so lucky I get to say that I achieved my childhood dream: I became a professor. And, now I will keep going, beyond my childhood imagination ✨
A strong federal consumer data privacy law would help us address online harms, protect children, support journalism, protect access to health care, foster digital justice, limit private data collection to train generative AI, limit foreign government surveillance, and strengthen competition.
There it is.
So... once they dismantle all centers of excellence and make the internet the only shiny direction, how do we build resilience against their impending technostate?
Sandra Harding paved the way for someone like me to dream the way that I do. It has been an absolute honor to have spent time thinking and laughing with such a singular thinker (and fellow Jersey kid!) dukeupress.wordpress.com/2025/03/12/f...

If you're a caregiver (and/or teacher or school leader) concerned about surveillance technologies in schools, I maintain the Against School Surveillance Technologies Library. The library has journalism, peer-reviewed research, and other resources on the problems of surveillance technologies.

Just fielded a heartbreaking apology from someone who at the time said I was being SO DRAMATIC calling his 1st term eugenics. But now in his 2nd, their ppl are dying too. Fam, in the gorgeous words of @margaret.bsky.social "I Hope We All Make It" docs.google.com/document/d/1...
If you are queer, dont just delete your accounts. Archive your posts. These are the stories we want to remember these times. Dont let the only remnants of these times be how the Nazis (or ones that said we were being dramatic about Nazis) tell it.
On #longcovid and community (and just staying awake generally), I sobbed listening to this Una Osato interview bc of how resonant this take is to my experience podcasts.apple.com/us/podcast/l...
Really thinking about long covid's impact on community participation and Beck Levy's hard and very relatable story today 🖤 #ihavelongcovid
A lot progressive tech is in academia or non profits and convenings are oriented towards expertise, not power bldg. @meredithmeredith.bsky.social warned of critical academia industrial complex: all critique, no power building.
