After a challenging day, we discussed changes that needed to happen. Students shared thoughts, many acknowledging how their behaviors disrupt our classroom community. They made signs! When students own the plan, I’m confident we will end this school year positively! #TeacherSky

Time to Lock-in!

I’m a liberatory educator. My pedagogy and praxis are built on the premise that the children are our future.

And, when Whitney’s version of “The Greatest Love of All” came on my morning rotation, I wondered if she also meant the children in my 4th period. 😩🤣

"Teaching, especially during this time of year, is trying to navigate such incongruities."

There is something soul-emptying about this, too, as a teacher. It takes a toll—a considerable one.

Scutwork The Schoolish Weeks of Standardized Testing

There is so much schoolishness during standardized testing. The system expects teachers to dictate where students sit, the scratch paper they use, how long they test, how much noise they make; we even control what students to do after testing. #TeacherSky #EduSky

This is such an important conversation! The decline of the English major begins with our youngest learners. How children see and do literacy is how adolescents and teens see and do English in high school, which is why fewer decide to pursue a literacy life post-high school. #EduSky #TeacherSky

I love that the analogy of regenerative farming, directly addresses the toxicity of industrial agriculture, which so aptly applies to public education. Public education, as a complicated system, has standardized and industrialized so many aspects of schooling, that the soil is almost fully depleted.

I love that quote so much I printed it out to tape to my planner! I think what all teachers grapple with is really the art of pedagogy. No matter the academic subject, how we present it to students makes a huge difference between engagement and compliance. #TeacherSky

"This is where having a both/and mindset is helpful. Where does the responsibility lie in appreciating art?"

Many "why Shakespeare?" pieces end up sounding the same but (unsurprisingly) @mrneibauer.bsky.social pivots multiple times here, towards something that I did not anticipate:

(In a good way)

It's Not That Deep, Bruh! Teaching Students to Hate Shakespeare

A recent conversation with my daughter has me thinking about why many students hate Shakespeare. We should give them flashlights to explore instead of a worksheet to complete. #TeacherSky #EduSky #SubstackSky

Every single one of the astronauts who went to the moon and back on Artemis II was educated at a public school.

Thinking of the teachers who poured into Reid Wiseman, Victor Glover, Christina Koch, and Jeremy Hansen tonight. You helped send a kid to the moon!
