Having seen the Practical Magic 2 teaser now, my ungenerous opinion is they probably didn't bring Evan Rachel Wood back as the daughter because she is def. Over 30 and it would make the two leads seem "too old" (even though Sandy B had a preteen daughter in the 1998 movie..28 yrs ago babe)

This is good. Another class A24 production, written by David E Kelley with a great performance by Elle Fanning. But the real standout is Michelle Pfeiffer. One scene, camera on her face, no dialogue, and you get a world of backstory in 30 seconds.

Toyota's $15,000 electric SUV surpasses 80,000 deliveries in China in its first year The bZ3X, Toyota’s fully electric SUV, is a hit in China. After delivering over 80,000 units in its first year...

Also, meanwhile in China...

It's amazing that they can make these cars affordable in China, but the US is so overly designed to keep you poor that you'd need to pay 2-4x more for the same car here.

Trump is weird rich coastal elite who is at least as out of touch with real people as Mitt Romney was but gets covered like a man of the people because he’s racist and stupid.

This is why you need to be reading books and writing your own emails, by the way. When you outsource your thinking abilities, you risk turning your brain into soup. Heavy dependence on AI has already been linked with severe cognitive decline. What you don’t use, you will lose.

The fact that Mamdani just seems like a cheerful normal guy who's policies are things like "we're going to tax second homes to fund pothole repairs" or whatever and yet this generates panicked responses like "This is basically Stalin's great purge turned up to eleven" is... telling. It tells things.

Just so you know CEOs aren't valuable they don't need high wages, most don't do anything.

Elon Musk is CEO of FOUR companies and he spends all day every day posting lies on Twitter.

CEOs shouldn't be paid 10x the minimum wage.

They should be paid the minimum wage.

We live in an age of zero media literacy, and it's not doing us any favors as a society. If people can't watch THE PITT and process it as a TV show, we don't stand a chance with nuanced real-world situations or ideas.

Ya'll be careful reviewing indie films on letterboxd, the odds are the director may see your review! It's happened to me twice now and I didn't say anything critical, but yet I feel bad if it's anything less than 5 stars 😩

I am fine with commercials playing before the lights go down at the movies. I have GIVEN UP that fight. But when you watch two trailers and then there’s a commercial for KFC? I reject everything about it. It is not a time for commercials, it is a time for commercials about movies, which are sacred.

This infuriating attitude shows up on the bookshelves in learning environments, too. We expect girls to empathize with boys, but we kneecap every opportunity to let boys empathize with girls. And look where we are.

A very astute (and upsetting!) piece that touches on four scary cultural trends: 1) The demand for spelled-out moral clarity in stories 2) A growing inability to understand different types of narratives 3) The "customer's always right" version of fandom 4) The growth of fandom as a social identity.

Yeah so he is just going to keep doing the thing where we are in a constant state of uncertainty, confusion, stress, and tension because that is what abusive people do and the people who are in a position to address this are asleep at the switch.

People talk about “public transit” like it’s some abstract policy debate, but it’s literally the difference between someone getting to work or losing their job.

A bus that runs on time isn’t a luxury. It’s dignity, mobility, and a shot at stability.

“If Trump were a Democrat would you still hate him?”

Trump WAS a Democrat, and I hated him then, too. I don’t GAF what party someone claims to be.

Nobody hates Trump because he’s a Republican. We hate him because he's a shitty President and possibly the shittiest human being who has ever lived.
