The Statement points out two key problems with our tax system:

- We’re a low tax country
- We tax work more than wealth

The wealthy don't have to have it their way - we can demand better.

A 36-year-old fire truck broke down today responding to a fire in Waitotara. 🚨

With Whanganui’s primary MAN truck already broken, every appliance in service is now 30+ years old. Off-duty crews were called back to cover the gap.

If you order from overseas, you will be now be charged a new government tax on shipments valued at $1,000 NZD or less. For imports, the levy will be $2.21 NZD per shipment, plus GST. For exports, $2.48 NZD per shipment, plus GST.

Always new taxes, always under stealth. #NZPOL 1/2

Infographic from the NZCTU. An RNZ headline reads: 'Needed more than ever': Living Wage rises to $29.90 per hour. Under the headline is white text on a read background. Text reads: For the third year in a row the Government has increased the minimum wage by less than inflation. Life is getting more expensive, and our pay isn’t keeping up. Working New Zealanders need a Living Wage.

Your food's more expensive. Your power's more expensive. Your fuel's more expensive. But for minimum wage workers, pay's only gone up to $23.95 - that's just 45 cents an hour.

New Zealanders can't afford this Government. #nzpol

Associate Energy Minister Shane Jones (NZ First) has been very vocal about who's to blame for our precarious fuel security situation. Did you know that he, in 2024, was the one to scrap plans for the public diesel reserve?

Petrol price increases may be out of their control, but businesses CAN control how they step up for workers.

We have asked eleven banks to agree to allow working from home for those that can do so AND to subsidise transport costs for workers required onsite.

We have asked 11 financial institutions if they will temporarily allow staff to work from home and for transport cost subsidies for on-site staff.

These are achievable solutions that would provide some relief and peace of mind in challenging times. We will update you on their response. #nzpol

Government Bill undoes Pike River legacy, families say Proposed changes to health and safety legislation are a betrayal of the 29 men who died in the Pike River mine, say family members Anna Osborne and Sonya Rockhouse.

An absolute betrayal from ACTs Brooke van Velden. The H&S Bill should not progress. We must kill the bill in honour of the 29 men killed at Pike River and the estimated 10,000 people in NZ who have died from work-related diseases or workplace fatalities since the Pike explosion in 2010. #nzpols

3/3 If this Bill passes then 'small' employers won't just be off the hook for avoidable physical injuries - harassment, bullying and workplace stress will be also become the employee's problem.

Everyday Kiwis are already at the end of their rope. We cannot keep moving backwards. #nzpol

2/3 This law change would take us back to disasters like Pike River and remove the regulations that were introduced when avoidable tragedy struck and New Zealanders said "never again".

Thank you to Pike River whānau Anna Osborne and Sonya Rockhouse for standing up and speaking today. #nzpol

Under the new law, things no longer covered include back injuries, loud noise, trips, falls, exposure to infection, harassment, bullying, and workplace stress. Employers won’t have to try eliminate these risks, provide training, supervision or PPE. Workers and our health system will carry the cost.

Rally TODAY at Parliament, 1pm.

This Government's health and safety law changes are being heard in select committee today. The new law would make smaller organisations with less than 20 staff (which employ 29% of working New Zealanders) responsible for a limited number of risks. #nzpol

Based off international evidence, if the Government implements compulsory pay gap reporting for large businesses, New Zealand wāhine (on the median wage) will get an 'extra' $25.36 per week. Wāhine Māori will get an 'extra' $58.40 and Pacific women $76.40.

What's the hold up?

Remember Richmond Pak'NSave? They remain one of the worst supermarket employers in the country.

Union members are still calling for Richmond region locals to CONTINUE BOYCOTTING the store and instead shop at competitors like Connings or Woolworths.
