It’s horrifying to watch - living this is nearly unimaginable.

Uni friend of husband lives there - and his Colombia-born, US-citizen wife has not left their home for weeks. And will not. Scared of being targeted for what she looks like.

The Carney government’s refusal to take the smallest steps against Musk’s CSAM microblogging site reflects the toxic mix of Carney’s strategy of not upsetting the US lest they punish us at the negotiating table, and his FOMO-driven AI policy.
We’re starting to see the fatal flaws in both strategies.

The threshold for the provincial homeowner grant for residential properties in B.C. has been set at $2.075 million for 2026, providing modest property tax relief to eligible homeowners.

This year the BC government set the wealth test for the HOG at above $2M, while renters get income tested at around $65k (adjusted net family income) for the full tax credit and get less money than the HOG for e.g. my condo.
(Yes, this is my annual call to get rid of the HOG)

Police say no charges pending after man killed in 2023 Calgary trench collapse | Globalnews.ca Calgary police say there will be no criminal charges laid against the employer of a 27-year-old man, killed when the trench he was working in collapsed on top of him in June 2023.

We agree with the girlfriend of 27 year-old Liam Johnston who was killed on the job: “We believe that this situation warrants serious charges to be laid. [...] Ultimately, Liam would be here today if different choices had been made by his employer.”

New election? This gov’t hasn’t fulfilled its #BCed promises from the last one. Now public education is being shortchanged at the bargaining table. Students deserve the same level of investment as the BCGEU contract.

More support for our kids

Teachers know what kids need – more time, more support, and more resources. Add your voice and tell government it’s time to deliver on better classroom conditions.

When a government uses the notwithstanding clause to silence workers, every Canadian loses a piece of their rights. Danielle Smith just set a dangerous precedent. Shame on you!! @daniellesmithab.bsky.social I stand with Alberta teachers #StandWithTeachersAB

When he says “record education funding” he means in nominal terms — and forgets to mention that nominal funding is almost always at record highs.

On a per-student basis, and after adjusting for inflation? It isn’t even close.

As Alberta pushes teachers away with bad bargaining, BC has a chance to lead. Respect and real investment in education could make this province a magnet for teachers. @lisabeare.bsky.social @davidebybc.bsky.social @bcndpcaucus.bsky.social

What we really need is full vacancy control (i.e. rents tied to the unit not the tenant). After all, renovictions were just landlords looking for workarounds to jack rents.

Great to see this investment in Surrey schools. 1000 new seats is welcome news for students and families. Next step is funding to move portables off school sites so kids get the full space they deserve. #bced

If the Liberals invited a convicted pedophile to speak to the cabinet about how to better protect children, would you defend that?
Then you shouldn't be defending this, either.
You don't ask monsters how you should fight monsters. Because they're liars and also, monsters.

At the next press conference, who is going to ask how much MLA salaries have increased in the last 15 years vs how much teacher salaries have increased over the same time because that is an answer in real time I’d live to see

There is a pattern emerging in labour negotiations: do not bargain if you are management and force the union to go on strike. Union goes on strike, becomes the bad guy, then the Liberal government steps in with binding arbitration, and the public forgets the labour dispute happened at all.

Nah, Carney's Liberals wouldn't side with airline executives over labour, would they? Couldn't be.

I think @pattyhajdu.bsky.social fucked up. Big time. Read the room, @mark-carney.bsky.social cause I don’t think people will be happy that you ordered mostly women back to do unpaid work. You’d better have some dynamic speaking points before the milk turns sour

BREAKING: Jobs minister orders Air Canada flight attendants back to work Air Canada flight attendants have officially begun their strike after failing to reach a deal with the airline, the Canadian Union of Public Employees announced Saturday morning.

Reminder that the strike is about a women-dominated workforce doing unpaid labour while executives get huge bonuses. Carney's Liberals are exactly who we warned they were.

Chasing perfection shouldn’t come at the cost of access. 1:1 care may be ideal, but for thousands with #LongCOVID, good care now is what’s urgently needed. Dr. Arseneau’s clinic works. Dismantling it helps no one. #LifeLineBC @josieosborne.bsky.social @brendavancouver.bsky.social

Denying the reality of education underfunding – IPE/BC

Parents, support staff, teachers, administrators, trustees and students have valuable insights on the impact of chronic education underfunding to share. When their reality is denied, it can feel like gaslighting.

Imagine selling "Making saves, getting babes" t-shirts in *kid's sizes* and then daring to keep a straight face when telling the media there's no misogyny in the world of hockey.

Even the "I love hockey moms" t-shirt for kids feels ... gross.
