The time has come for us, as an organisation, to boycott @pinknews.bsky.social.
Despite reservations about the company, we have sometimes worked with queer and trans reporters there to tell stories we thought were important for our community - the same as other outlets.
That ends today. Why?

Our thoughts are with the dedicated journalists who continue to fight to tell LGBTQIA+ stories and do the work our community deserves.
I say this from experience. I worked at PinkNews for a long time, first as a freelancer, then as a news reporter, and later as a special reports & features writer. I worked with incredible people who cared passionately about what they were doing, but the company’s leadership was never on our side.

I can confirm I have been made redundant from my role as Senior Reporter at PinkNews.
In my redundancy consultation, I was told the brand is "moving away from having a reporter-led newsroom".
How can they make journalism without journalists? I have no clue either.

As someone who was at Sussex Uni during the time of Kathleen Stock, I saw firsthand how horrific her words about trans students were and the extent to which her actions made them feel unsafe and unprotected by the uni. Transphobia is never "free speech" it's discrimination, plain and simple. 🏳️⚧️
