I set up this account right before #RSA2025 + #Shax2025, thinking I’d post my way through them—but between 2 conferences, 6 archives, + dozens of old and new friends, there was no time. It’s good to see so many #earlymodern historians + literary scholars here, though. Thanks for sharing your work.

All conferences should be followed by a week of holiday... jumping late on the bandwagon to celebrate #shax2025! A special thank you to my fellow panelists @drpetekirwan.bsky.social, MJ Kidnie, & Ray Proctor -- it's an honour to share space and think with you all

🧵14/14 Of course, in between #shax2025 & #rensa2025 events were the incidental conversations, introductions, coffees, political commentaries, drinks, generous offers from established scholars, exciting news, commiserations, & much laughter. Thank you, all & sundry, until next time, hopefully soon!

🧵13/? It was then an absolute delight to watch MFA actors in a rapid-fire, playful yet pensive & extremely funny rendering of Cyril Tourneur's 'The Atheist's Tragedy', co-sponsored by @shaxbull.bsky.social and SAA, also for #shax2025.

🧵12/? My final formal venture for #shax2025 was the panel on learning's ends, chaired generously by @lucycmunro.bsky.social. Catherine Nicholson [not a relative, but a delight to meet, finally!], @alanstewart50.bsky.social & @adamzucker.bsky.social spoke beautifully on kinds of endings & on hope.

🧵10/? On Sat morning, I heard the #shax2025 Playgoing & Privilege panelists Simon Smith, @eoinprice.bsky.social, Lauren Robertson & Miles Grier's respective work, chaired by Erika Lim. Together, they offered us such compelling work: each fruitful in their own right & richly generative in tandem.

🧵9/? In the afternoon, I heard the #shax2025 plenary panel on 'Sweet Master Shakespeare'. Kim F. Hall & @oldfortunatus.bsky.social spoke on the violence behind what are now our field's rare books, & @bkadams.bsky.social prompted us to reflect on how we contend with such controversy in our work.

🧵8/? Midway through this day, much of the #shax2025 contingent went to the annual luncheon, where we could congratulate prize winners, connect, & also be reminded by @ruben-espinosa.bsky.social of how our work speaks to & is significant in the fact of many social fractures in our world.

🧵6/? Day two began with a cracker of a #shax2025 panel: @selsky.bsky.social and Penelope H. Geng organised 'Reimagining Law and Literature', through which we heard (among other things) about legislation &/in literatures concerning the environment, race, enslavement, gender, property, & citizenship.

🧵5/? The final scholarly treat for the afternoon was listening in during Darryl Chalk & @lostplayhouse.bsky.social's #shax2025 seminar: Re-weirding &/as Re-wilding in Shax. Notable mentions during this included @ohwowbee.bsky.social on what animals eat in Winter's Tale & Sophie Chiari on "wastes".

🧵4/? Next was a #shax2025 panel: Theatrical Labour [no, I will not apologise for my spelling!] & the Audience. With @norajw.bsky.social , Peter Kirwan, M. J. Kidnie, & John R. Proctor III, we thought together about the limits of and sensitivities necessary in good dramaturgy & stagecraft.

🧵3/? I then had the delight of participating in @alex-thom.bsky.social cial's #shax2025 seminar on early modern displacement. We had a strong Shakespearean focus, but conversation extended to Dekker and Marlowe, Montaigne's essays, trade routes, generic categorisation & literary certainty.

🧵2/? Before specified scholarly undertakings took place, I popped in to the @nvshakespeare.bsky.social ky.social breakfast hosted through #shax2025 to hear more about their fabulous contribution within digital humanities (long may it continue!) now hosted with A&M Texas.

It was a whirlwind of odd travel hiccoughs to get back to Sydney from the combined #shax2025 and #RenSA2025 in Boston. Having shaken off only about half of the jetlag, here are some thoughts and thank yous: (🧵1/?)

Thanks to everyone on the #Shax2025 Grieving in Shakespeare's World panel for a fascinating seminar! Kaara & I really enjoyed meeting everyone & thinking in new ways about grief, loss, memory & memorialisation (and of course Hamlet, which featured quite a bit)! @saaupdates.bsky.social

Well springtime in Boston and Salem has been delightful! Came here for #Shax2025, stayed to enjoy the public art, history, good food, and wildlife, and heading home now with a full heart and invigorated mind.

this was one of the most rewarding and generative seminar experiences I’ve ever had at #shax2025: and it was my first time leading a seminar too! Grateful to all my participants and auditors (incl the inimitable Edel here): we may have been last thing on a Saturday but it was so totally worth it ❤️

Back from Boston and #Shax2025. Heartfelt thanks to @ellierycroft.bsky.social and @harrymccarthy.bsky.social for a super-generative ‘Performing Bodies’ seminar. And I did break out of the Prudential Center on my last day!

I had the BEST time at #Shax2025 in boston. thank you everyone who showed up for the NextGenPlen & to everyone who came up to me to chat about stage blood, bladders, & other things!

Also, every single student I’ve talked to today has asked about the conference, so either I just never shut up about #Shax2025 or they are adorably aware and considerate.

I chatted with @onthetudortrail.bsky.social about monsters and monster-making in the sixteenth century, on the Talking Tudors #podcast! If you weren't able to get to my monster panel at #RenSA2025 #Shax2025, this might appeal.

Though we are but a journal's bluesky account, we had an excellent time learning from you all at #Shax2025 and #RenSA25, even during short chats in glass tunnels. Send us your expanded papers! Already looking forward to San Francisco and Denver...

Survived my first #Shax2025 — oh, how I wish spring break were two weeks long, however!
