Since the New Deal, the right edge of the conservative movement has been committed to the goal of eliminating all facets of the federal government that do good in the world, leaving behind only a war machine and a surveillance operation capable of containing the “internal leftist enemy.”

Marching orders, to be sure.
Monsters.
It doesn’t feel like we’re being invaded by immigrants, it feels like we’re being invaded by Trump.
Right on. Your book was so funny I laughed my airline ginger ale right out of my nose. Seatmate confused and then (after brief line reading) delighted by your ferocity.
to call this a crime against humanity is true but inadequate — it’s a crime against all creation
🚨 There’s a lot of horrific news out of Washington right now—but you might have missed this: Senate Republicans just introduced a plan to sell off 120 million acres of our public lands.
Let me break down what’s in the bill and why it’s a full-scale land grab. 🧵
Everything that’s happened over the past six months has been a response to an imaginary crisis. There is no immigrant invasion. No trade crisis. No scientific or governance crisis. Just people completely high off their own supply trying to fundamentally reorder society. None of this had to happen.

I don’t understand why the president is allowed to spout nonsense about colonizing another country and the 25th amendment isn’t being invoked in addition to all the other horrors this is insane. It’s absolutely insane. It isn’t funny or even weird.

The irony of the richest man in the world almost single-handedly destroying an agency designed to help the world’s poor, so that the U.S. federal budget has more room for another giant tax cut for the richest man in the world and his pals, should not be lost on anyone. [Cartoon by Mike Luckovich]
Jamie Raskin: 'There's not a fourth branch of the federal government called 'Elon Musk.'
That may be the first great line of the resistance
Deeply confused.
Crackers for me.
True. Also:
Five memoirists I’d rather see as vice president: Alexander Chee, Susan Ito, Gayle Brandeis, P. Carl, Kiese Laymon
On my way to #awp24 Guy behind me on phone. Overheard advice: “The best way to get some momentum is to start putting stuff out. Start putting content out. Start throwing parties and getting in front of people.” Duly noted.
Headed to #AWP24 Look forward to random wandering, chance meetups and participating on this panel! Come say hello!
