As sépalas e pétalas têm 4 a 6 mm de comprimento e formam uma franja. A base da flor é de um roxo intenso com 5 estames, um ovário e um estilete ramificado. Os estiletes curvam-se para trás e os estigmas, que se localizam no topo dos estiletes, têm uma cabeça bem distinta. É uma planta trepadeira semi-lenhosa, nativa do sudeste do Brasil.
