Delighted to speak with fellow LOI heads @gerrytastic.bsky.social and @macdarabueller.bsky.social and journalist @valerieflynn.bsky.social about League of Ireland history. Really cool piece up now.

Very VERY long thread listing project after project. They all worked. They all had positive effects. Let people help themselves and they will, and will be happier and healthier for it.
The question remains why we still need 'pilot studies' and 'aren't sure about this'. Who benefits from poverty?
As the League of Ireland enjoys its greatest level of popularity in decades, we caught up with three historians about its heyday, the wilderness years and what happens next. jrnl.ie/7013248t
This is a genuinely mindblowing combination. 1) Deliberately false information, 2) promoted in schools, 3) using public money, 4) in the service of private profits, 5) at the cost of our collapsing ecosystem.
‘Most of the abusive comments were posted on X (formerly Twitter) by users who routinely post anti-immigration content. Some right-wing influencer accounts abroad also picked up on Flynn’s comments’.

As well as being a technically and creatively superb writer, director, and producer of The Pitt, Noah Wyle has spent years supporting nurses and other healthcare workers' unions in their battle for better conditions.
He co-created The Pitt as a love letter to Covid first responders, and it shows.
Sinéad O’Sullivan: The protests aren't just about fuel, they're a revolt against a hollow state...

I agree - not least because the Minister’s statement announcing he had called the Army (reportedly brought forward to the Morning Ireland window from its original intended release) was simply not true at the time it was released
I’ll go one further, a lot of the protest leaders have confused their Facebook/TikTok feed with reality. They genuinely believe that there’s massive public support in Ireland for their protests purely based on the reaction their posts are getting on de social media…
My Dub husband just called Coddle Willy-con-carne and that's what I'll be calling it going forward #SpeirGorm
Limerick woman Scarlett Faulkner, who suffered critical head injuries during an assault last month, has died in hospital.

There's a fine big pot of money sitting in a gofundme to feed the protesters. The Muslim Sisters of Éire and other homeless charities would make great use of it.

They couldn’t give people with disabilities a €400 emergency payment.
New Gist: A Denial Of Service Attack
"The state is happy to assert it can achieve incredible and unprecedented feats of change, later, while always arguing that it can't so much as buy a new pair of shoes right now."

Let disabled people get married or even just move in with their partners without it affecting our disability allowance.
It wasn't means tested based on my parent's income when I lived with them, it shouldn't be means tested based on my partner's income. It sets me up for financial abuse.
Presumably there will be a package of reliefs for people who are out of pocket from booking hotels and transport and other costs to attend these ceremonies right?
And the protesters will support this because those are mostly working people right?
🚨 A special Cabinet meeting has been called for tomorrow to discuss the security situation nationwide, with updates from Jim O’Callaghan and Helen McEntee
Ministers will also receive an update on the weekend’s talks with industry groups, though there are (for now) no formal matters to be signed off
While many protesters in Ireland are complaining about fuel costs, far-right actors and international figures are using the movement to push anti-immigrant narratives.
If you are holding a protest and the racists show up to join in and you do not immediately and loudly tell them to fuck off you're no longer at a protest, you're at a racist rally.
Racists brining the country to a standstill this week (under guise of fuel crisis) tried to intimidate one of the great charities in the country last night.
MSOÉ have been feeding the unhoused for 11 years on O Connell street.
Ugly scenes but beautiful show of solidarity from the people they feed.
Just worth saying, for absolutely legal clarity: the government does not have the legal prerogative to abolish carbon tax in its entirety. Carbon tax is a form of excise, and EU directives require excise on diesel to be a minimum of 33c per litre. (1/2)
Hello all, @bubblegumpunk.bsky.social has a student looking to analyse/compare the Dutch and Irish criminal law systems for minors. Do you have any recommended articles/books the student should look at? I've passed on BAILII for case law to her.
There's a new primary and secondary school campus currently being built in Clondalkin. Now it seems the Dept of Education has plans to shelve the planned additional SEN (Special Educational Needs) accommodations owing to budgetary concerns. Petition here.

I might be naive, but a headline featuring a Minister saying "my job is not to be sensitive", above a caption featuring a "mother of explosion victim" is not a very good look
Why do so many politicians think empathy and kindness are beneath them?
“elderly men and women struggling with the intense task of caring for someone until death, and intellectually disabled men and women in late middle age devastated by the twin catastrophes of losing their emotional mainstay and their home at the same time.”
