Those videos of the gents who slashed through the NEH, wielding only a vaporous understanding of a questionable Executive Order?

Thanks to @historians.org, @modernlanguage.bsky.social, and @acls1919.bsky.social for bringing the lawsuit that produced this material in discovery.

Line graph time series of 2026's daily Arctic sea ice extent compared to decadal averages from the 1980s to the 2010s. The decadal averages are shown with different colored lines with purple for the 1980s, blue for the 1990s, green for the 2000s, and white for the 2010s. Thin white lines are also shown for each year from 2000 to 2025. 2026 is shown with a thick gold line. There is a long-term decreasing trend in ice extent for every day of the year shown on this graph between January and March by looking at the decadal average line positions.

Compare Countries, States, Provinces, and Regions with This Simple Tool Drag, drop and rotate countries, states, provinces, and regions around the map to compare their relative size. Is Greenland really as big as all of Africa? You may be surprised...

Since we are talking about #Greenland (again), this spatial historian would want to remind journalists (as @allinwithchris.bsky.social and @chrismurphyct.bsky.social did) that Greenland is not a big as Africa.

Changes in the Landscape: Humans and Nature in Nineteenth-Century Latin America

I had the pleasure of reading Changes in the Landscape edited by Jennifer French to review for @hahr21.bsky.social .

Its chapters engaged with #Latam literary production through the lens of #ecocriticism

Maybe @nytimes.com should stop outsourcing proofreading to AI.

(Today is Monday, the search did not drag into Tuesday because Tuesday is tomorrow).

Does any one use #Obsidian for taking notes of *archival docs*?

I've seen folks use it to organize writing/historiographical notes, but not sure how to use for arch research. For ref, I use #onenote for research, grouping notes by archive.

The Dismal Application Record of the Trump Compact The Trump administration hoped to get accepted by some prestigious universities. It didn't work out well.

The Trump administration had high hopes that its compact would be accepted by every university. Alas, it appears that every university rejected the administration except for its safety school. open.substack.com/pub/danieldr...

What a generous review from Magadalena Gil. I appreciate her engagement with my work and the important questions she raises for the period that follows my study.

In theory you can disable it, but it doesn't seem to do much. I also worry about scholars uploading their work there... it's really disappointing because it undermines the nature of scholarly engagement!
