Ein paar Tage in Weimar bei den Skizzentagen. 20 Illustratoren trafen sich zum gemeinsamen Zeichnen. Es gab auch kleine Workshops. Hier meine erste Zeichnung nach Ankunft in Weimar: die Zufahrt zum Wittumspalais.

4 kleine Skizzen in Buntstift in blau und orange. 1. Landschaft mit Weitblick, 2. Ein Teil der Orangerie mit Steinsäule davor, 3. ein kleines Gartenhäuschen und eine Hecke, zwei Bänke, davor Blumenbeet. 4. Gebäude und Teil der Orangerie, etwa 10 kugelig gschnittene Bäumchen in Töpfen davor.
Ein Workshop führte uns zum Schloss Belvedere. Herrlich gelegen südlich von Weimar in schöner Landschaft mit Orangerie und hübschem kleinen Schlosspark. Aufgabe: benutze nur Blau und Orange.

The big, beautiful blue sky was full of white fluffy clouds--the perfect high desert weather. I took photos of Monument Valley from a few miles away, watching the clouds pass shadows over the red rock buttes below. I printed this photo when I returned from my trip, and I have been wanting to paint it ever since. When I paint, I try to recapture what it felt like to actually stand there, my feet sinking into the warm, soft red sand, a breeze ruffling my hair, squinting into the sky, and feeling surrounded by beautiful color 360 degrees around me.

Those kind of palette (I own many, art toolkit and others) are for quick sketching on the way, no puddles or big mixing. The art toolkit has an opening at the end of the ridge anyway, to allow air to flow. Important so that there is no mold.
