I'm proud to share the latest methods work from my group. Led by @revathykri.bsky.social we wrote a book chapter on how we process and analyse viromes.
Thanks to co-authors @rikhaagmans.bsky.social @ryancook94.bsky.social & Alise Ponsero

Box and whisker plot of various assemblers and their number of errors per assembly. Autocycler outperforms all assemblers with the lowest median of <=10 errors per genome
Automated, almost-error-free consensus #assemblies with Autocycler
Impressive benchmarks in Fig 2B (below): ≤10 median errors PER genome
Once again, incredible, landmark work from @rrwick.bsky.social

Thanks Evelien for the kind words and support always! Not possible otherwise!
Am so proud to say the planet is in right hands! Thanks @Eaton Primary! A whole week of long distance conversation about his work in his school through phone, which he brought home for me to see!
Great talk on viromics methods by @ryancook94.bsky.social #Microbio2025 telling us his view on the good, the bad and the ugly.

In a different type of session this morning at #Microbio2025 about translation where the @quadraminstitute.bsky.social’s Matt Gilmour is talking about industrial partnerships brokered by the Food Safety Research Network
Check out poster B286 #microbio2025 by @hannahvpye.bsky.social who is presenting the BronchoPhage study in which we are developing a phage-based therapy for bronchiectasis.
Hannah also gave a great flash talk!
Please go check out poster B070 #Microbio2025 by @deuskamya.bsky.social on understanding phage resistance development in Klebsiella
Alice Nisbet stood beside her scientific poster on typhoidal Salmonella in England and Wales over the past 20 years.
After being quiet for a while-I'm back on @bsky.app! 🎉 To kick-start my return, today I'll be presenting my work with @ukhsa.bsky.social on #typhoidal #Salmonella at #MicroBio25! Pop by poster 301 for exciting insights into enteric fever, including some innovative analysis on bacterial carriers! 🦠

A.Santhos inserts a slide into the foldscope. He is a former student who lives in the neigbourhood and keeps in touch with the students of his alma mater, often taking them for nature walks to examine the world around them through the foldscope. Viraj Nayer for NPR

Ramana Rajeesh Kumar, 11, Meenakshi, 8, and Magathi Yazhini, 9, with their Foldscopes. Ramana has been fascinated with bugs for a while. "They look even cooler under the Foldscope," he says. "Especially their eyes and hairy feet!" Viraj Nayer for NPR
My favorite NPR story blog - “Goats and Soda” sent a writer and photographer to a rural school in India; an early adopter of Foldscope. A wonderful photo story of kids “reading nature”. In this current challenging climate - the kids show us the way with joy and wonder.

10.1093/nar/gkaf113 Yet another evidence of prophages rewiring host transcription network. It feels really great to see the puzzle unfolding from where I left! Great work Dr.Iwona Mruk and team.
I'm very happy to report that Matt Schechter's PhD work is now online as a pre-print:
"Ribosomal protein phylogeography offers quantitative insights into the efficacy of genome-resolved surveys of microbial communities", www.biorxiv.org/content/10.1...
Here's a little 🧵 about it.
If you have been using #anvio to analyze your microbial pangenomes, we have a new program for you to calculate rarefaction curves or Heaps' Law fit for your gene clusters:

Sorry it took this long :/ But at least t will run on any existing anvi'o pangenome :)
It was a great and long first day at IBSE symposium today. That's a great well received talk by @evelienadri.bsky.social today making my poster session so easy! I had a great time learning about the microbiome of various ecosystem from rhizosphere to Ocean! Gearing up for flash talk tomorrow!
It feels great to be able to present my work that I cherish everyday with @evelienadri.bsky.social in 5th IBSE International Symposium (ibse.iitm.ac.in/symposium-05/) @IIT,Chennai, my home. If any of you are in and around please find me with my poster S2-8 to know more about Early Human Gut Virome.
Thanks to

This is going to be great and exciting opportunity for those who are interested in Molecular Nematology! Check it out!
Grateful to the Swedish Research Council (Vetenskapsrådet) for funding a 3 year project on antibiotic resistance & phages in my group. If you're looking for a post-doc position in 2025, have a phagey background, & are interested in combining wet and dry research then keep a look out for an ad soon!
