Watercolour painting of a woodland path in dappled spring sunlight, with dark greens either side. The path looks towards the early morning sun and leads to a lighter distance.

If I don’t force myself into making paintings then…… in the studio today ‘Early Morning Woodland’, watercolour, 38x42cms

Watercolour painting looking through a woodland to a green distance in spring light. Blue shadows dance diagonally across the woodland floor which I’ve left as white paper to represent the sunlight.

I really don’t know what’s happening, but another day in the studio and another painting this morning. This is ‘Not snow II’, watercolour, 38x42cms

Reasonably warm in the studio this morning and my first painting in what seems like absolutely months. I don’t know what’s happened, but I actually felt like putting brush to paper today. Anyway, this is… ‘No, it’s not snow’, watercolour, 38x42cms

Video

If you’ve never heard the sound of pebbles being scraped back to sea by a receding wave, have a listen to this! I’ll never forget the first time I heard this - March 2012 on Vík beach. This is Malarrif last weekend.

Dap H35W96D35cms another one of my favourites. Dap” is a friendly gesture of greeting, agreement, or solidarity.
I like to think this piece is a symbol of togetherness, people coming together. A linking of thoughts & life, personal opinion & my background all tied up in this piece

Watercolour painting of the view over my mother’s garden hedge. There are fields, white houses in the middle distance, a disused coal mine now overgrown with winter trees, all disappearing into a blue distance.

My first painting in quite sometime. Not my best but I’ve put paint on paper. Watercolour 39x42cms

Thank you Jon. Like a lot of others I’m attempting to replicate that old feeling of using film but with my Fuji camera. It’s a welcome distraction.

Photo of the street in my village at night. The camera’s daylight white balance has given the photo a reddish cast.

It’s not been a great week thus far to say the least. Took this photo walking back home.

I’m rather ashamed to say that I haven’t attempted to make any new work for over a month.

I've made some small drawings on wood of ships, in the North Sea. Paintings to follow I think. Drawn from the umpteen thousand photos I have of them. I'm enjoying the grain of the wood getting involved.
