Normals in blender can be copied and pasted between vertices. When I was doing a similar tile set some time ago I found out that it’s easier to manually set correct normal than hope the auto-calculated ones will match.

Legend says the portrait blinks when no one is watching. Better hair styles and prettier faces will be available at some point. It's a paper-doll-like layering of sprites, so some features can be customized.

Ended up toning down the scanlines and adding a slight horizontal blur for some color bleeding. Somehow it just feels CRT enough.

I must admit that I seriously underestimated how hard is to create a single fake CRT shader that remains readable at different resolutions. The best method seems to be forgo realism completely and just suggest scanlines/pixelmask.

Building a compiler is good too. If you target x86_64 and decide to assemble it rather than use an external assembler you can even experience the madness that years of backwards compatibility bring to the table.
