Thinking of all those in Gaza and across the Middle East who don’t have the privilege of celebrating.
Too often those in government view support for mothers or families as providing free childcare. Why don’t we also recognise and value the work those do in staying at home, often sacrificing careers, to care for children?
Today is International Women's Day.
Bromley Green Party celebrates all the incredible women in the Green Party and beyond who are working every day to accelerate action for gender equality.

So in my own way, I do have it all. Things are difficult, but I am managing to do work that truly fulfils me whilst being there for my son as much as possible.

I’m also continuing with standing as a candidate in the upcoming May elections, as I’ve been able to take my son campaigning with me, and I want to show him that you can enter the world of politics, even if you don’t identify with those in power.
I’ve also made some changes to my business, as I want to model the idea that being stressed at work is not ok. This, however, comes at a financial cost.
The work we do in birthing and caring for our babies is not seen as actual work worth payment.
I’m not entitled to statutory maternity pay and so find myself in this position.
At the same time, I want to be present for my son, so I’m not returning to full-time work for some time.
My first International Women’s Day as a mum and the first time I can start to answer whether women can have it all.
The basic answer: no.
I’ve had to return to some form of work earlier than I wanted to because there is very limited support for self-employed mums.
Labour seem to think that being arrogant and dismissive is what will win over a public that believe them to be arrogant and dismissive.

Had some really interesting conversations on the doorstep and enjoyed meeting Cllrs James, Martin and Liam from @southwarkgp.bsky.social, @lambethgreenparty.bsky.social and @lewishamgreenparty.bsky.social.
So in the week that they lost a safe seat to @greenparty.org.uk the brains trust @labouruk.bsky.social decide to reintroduce hostile environments for asylum seekers. Not to mention backing a war which may create a need to offer refuge to those caught up in it. 😳
