โHey, Teenagers: Pay close attention to the books people try to ban. Then, make a beeline to read those books, if you can. Find out for yourself why those people want that book banned. Find out for yourself if they can be trusted to know whatโs best for you.โ

A picture of a rather dilapidated copy of "The picture of Dorian Gray" There is visible water damage to the cover and the plastic cover is yellowing. Obviously, not evident from the picture but there is a truly foul musty smell emanating from it!
Last week, a gentleman returned this rather dilapidated copy of this famous book to us after 50 years. He had found it in his attic!
Presumably this means there is a pristine copy somewhere in our libraries....

PHOTO by Quang Vuong. A narrow aisle stretches deep into a monochrome labyrinth of tall bookshelves, packed tightly with aged spines and endless stories. Overhead signs mark categoriesโPoetry, U.S. History, Literary Biosโdangling above the quiet corridor. A lone step ladder waits mid-path, inviting the seeker upward. Fluorescent lights cast a sterile glow, yet the space feels timeless, suspended between thought and memory. The silence is thick, broken only by the imagined rustle of turning pages.
If you only read the books that everyone else is reading, you can only think what everyone else is thinking.
- Haruki Murakami, Norwegian Wood

Reading about AI and the publishing industry, anxiety began creeping in. Then, I recalled Byron Katie's words, "If you argue with reality, you'll lose. But only every time." I can't control the market. I can write and submit bc I love it. I can live my life authentically. #circleofinfluence #writing

Do you know what I crave? Realness.
It doesn't have to be pretty. It doesn't have to be bold. It doesn't have to be perfect.
Also, just because it's said with confidence, doesn't make it true.
Imagine if more headlines were real, instead of clickbait?

Do you know what?
Your writing matters. Your stories matter. Who wants to read them?
I do.

I love reading novels. Iโm always amazed by folks who donโt read fiction. There is nothing better, to me, than being in the middle of a book that you canโt wait to return to. Itโs like living two lives at once.

"When I despair, I remember that all through history the way of truth and love have always won. There have been tyrants and murderers, and for a time, they can seem invincible, but in the end, they always fall. Think of itโalways." ~ Mahatma Gandhi
