Celebratory birthday sketch of my OCs, Lucero (L, brown) & Renato (R, purple) Martinez 💛 Lucero is Ren's twin brother. He's an investigative journalist who got a lot of the info & evidence needed to convict & capture major players in the old capitalist, fascist regime. Has been publishing articles (& earning money for them) since his teens. Warm, friendly, & easy to talk to; Renato gets the more calm, collected persona he pretends to be from when he & Luz would swap places in school growing up. Luz went to a fancy prep school for middle & high school while Ren stayed at public school because Luz started showing his promise in writing pretty early on, teachers recommended he go to the fancy prep school, & their grandparents (who raised them; they're orphans) could only afford for one of them to go. (After a couple switches, Ren gets over it bc the private school kids are MEAN.) Luz gets his success from his more friendly, unassuming nature (so people tell him too much) & from being good at disguising himself. Worst liar in the world unless it's for a story 😂 When the first novel starts, Lucero has been in protective custody with Voz Unida for 3 years because SOME of the jerks in power before saw the signs & fucked off before Muñoz took over as President & there's reason to believe these people would do something about Luz & the info he has. There, he is introduced to Serena to give her info on Renato before the first District Battles. She keeps visiting him tho, & they become good friends. Eventually, Luz trusts & likes her enough to entrust her with checking up on (& a little bit setting her up with) Renato. He worries about his brother because he knows Ren is the type to have ZERO friends if left to his own devices, & so, Luz is basically like "I like Rini & enjoy her company, & I'm pretty sure Ren will like her, too, so yea, let's send her over to him" 😜 Luz is a gay man, & his Lightmotif is a combo of Spanish hunting dogs & detective paraphernalia 💛🎉
