Check out the The Illustration Department's woefully wonderful podcast of Edward Gorey's 100th birthday up in Cape Cod. There was a plenteousness of mink coats. Bat-themed turbans portended doom to all. Subscribe to the podcast while you're there... ere you perish. #edwardgorey illustrationdept.com

If you are in LaGrange NY tomorrow, drop by the
@LaGrangeLibrary for Take Your Child To The Library Day! I'll be drawing, and Diana Murray, author of Unicorn Day & Dinosaur Day, will be reading! (I gotta admit, she's more delightful than me by half.)
There's a tremendous amount of awful right now in this country, but this one is really personal.
After the Photoshoot
(With apologies to William Carlos Williams)
This is just to say
I found the mints
You loaned me
At the photoshoot
The next day
In my jeans
And which
You were probably
Saving for clubbing
Forgive me
They were
So very minty
And I had
Really bad
Coffee breath
I’m sure
I LOVE THAT GAME
Stone fences make good neighbors... unless of course you're dead, and then who gives a fig?
I loved "Voted For You" where steamy cowhand Buck secretly voted to uphold women's rights. The local farm goes bankrupt when all the workers are rounded up & deported, but he tips his hat & says, "Don't vote for no snakes & outlaws" as the wind opens his shirt & displays his epic abs. HOT.
Thank you, @lucyvandrew.bsky.social for the kind words, and making our January a bit less bleak as well!
Been trying to tell your horror-obsessed bf or gf that Nosferatu ain't exactly your idea of holiday viewing pleasure? Well, this is your lucky day! Just print out this little form and check the right box so they finally take the hint already!

The 1979 version of The Lion, The Witch and the Wardrobe fascinated me as a child. The scene where the scampering hordes of witches and goblins shave Aslan and kill him was TERRIFYING to me as a 5 year old. C.S. Lewis created such a rich layering of classic & Christian mythology in his books.
Let's talk about movies that SHOULD be Christmas classics, but aren't... First up is #youngsherlockholmes. Producer Steven Spielberg and director Chris Columbus weaved a delightful take on the Holmes lore & arguably the visual archetypes for A LOT of the cinematic Harry Potter. What are yours?
However, I probably lost any earned street credit when I wrote "I'll have you know".
I'll have you know that an auditorium full of 4th and 5th graders today said I'm cooler than Taylor Swift. Not that it's a competition or anything.
Tomorrow I've been invited back to my home state of DE to speak at two libraries: the New Castle library on Rt 9 at 11, and then the Harrington library at 1:30. I'll talk about how I do what I do, share some stories, and WE WILL DRAW. Drop by! #delaware #delawarelibraries
There should be a long German word for the sorrowful feeling you have when you turn on the TV, immediately see the Rankin Bass logo that appears at the end of so many animated specials—you wonder what cool retro thing you just missed, and you look at the cable menu, and DAMN IT, IT WAS THE HOBBIT.
There's evidence of a furry squatter in our basement. Went to the Home Depot yesterday and asked, "Excuse me. Where are your rodent traps? I have to get Thanksgiving dinner ready." Associate did a double take & cracked up. HAPPY THANKSGIVING!
Paul, it was Sir Terry that got me through 2017-2021, and it's Sir Terry that's going to get me through 2025-2029.
Getting funny looks on the train because of laughing loudly as I leave London for my home (in a quaint village). I thoroughly recommend “Your Guide to Not Getting Murdered in a Quaint English Village” by @maureenjohnsonbooks.com
If you live in one you will relate. Heed her words! 📚💙
