Your Guide to NASA's Budget How big is NASA's budget right now? What was it like in the past? How does it compare to the rest of government spending? These answers, as well as…

While we're talking percentages, let's talk about the proposed cuts to NASA's science budget.

NASA is currently 0.36% of US federal spending. www.planetary.org/space-policy...

The proposed budget cuts NASA science by 47%.

NASA science is already on a shoestring, and that string is about to break

Also: look up Zhang Shan. She won gold at the Barcelona Olympics in 1993 in skeet shooting.

Skeet shooting had been a mixed gender event since the 60s, but after her win, they segregated the genders. And in the next Olympic Games, they literally didn’t even have a women’s skeet shooting category.

Zhang Shan won the gold medal for the mixed skeet shooting event in the 1992 Olympics.

The International Shooting Union *immediately* banned women from competing against men.

Matt Damon playing a 14th century French knight that looks like a third baseman for the Phillies. Mullet. Beard. Smells like horse shit, pine tar, and cigarette smoke.

Matt Damon while playing Odysseus who also looks like a third baseman for the Phillies. Long, skinny beard. Smells like horseshit, pine tar, and perhaps Mediterranean herbs.

Every time Matt Damon takes on a period role he ends up looking like a third baseman for the Phillies.

Listen, they are building concentration camps and threatening genocide against a country of 90 million people. There is not a single remotely legal tactic that is impermissible when it comes to stopping them.

The Venn diagram of storygraph/Goodreads/Amazon reviewers who complain constantly about 'telling not showing' and those who cannot comprehend subtext or allusion if isn't spelled out to them is basically a circle.

My photo shows a Hellenistic era hemispherical mosaic glass bowl viewed from above. The glass has a floral pattern made up of tiny, many-petalled blue, white, and yellowy-green flowers against a dark purple background (looks black in my photo). The bowl has an alternating diagonal-striped black and white glass rim. The bowl has been reconstructed from fragments and the plain light blue areas are where missing glass fragments have been replaced during reconstruction. It measures 13.2 cm in diameter and 7.5 cm in height. It was made in the eastern Mediterranean about 200-100 BC.

This Hellenistic mosaic glass bowl looks so modern, yet it was made over 2,000 years ago!

Ancient glassmakers created the tiny flower pattern using a technique now known as ‘millefiori’ (thousand flowers). A timeless design still made by glassmakers today!

I muted this throwaway nothing of a hockey post last night because my notifications were going bonkers.

Kept going all night. Picked up a lot of followers and blocks from it, too, I guess.

Clear evidence that negativity gets attention?

Re: nostalgia for VHS tapes and other analog media, I saw someone say like "a VHS tape never sold my information to a nazi" and yes that's true! But the reason it's true is actually because Congress passed a law in 1988 specifically making it illegal for video stores to sell your rental history

because CD players, walkmans, and VCRs usually fucking worked and did precisely what was asked of them without relogging in and syncing and re-entering passwords and getting confirmation codes and doing 2FA with out TV and phone and clicking a fake "remember me" box that's fucking why

Genre Grapevine on the Anthropic "Blood-Money" Settlement | Jason Sanford's Genre Grapevine Despite the settlement being praised as a major win for authors, I still hate it.

"...I'm tired of settling for a pittance. I'm beyond exhausted at being told "this is the best you can get." I'm done with the world's richest people and companies stealing my stories and acting as if theft isn't theft when they do it."

As creatives: “Self doubt lives in all of us. And while we may wish it gone, it’s there to serve us. Flaws are human, and the attraction of art is the humanity held in it. If we were machinelike, the art wouldn’t resonate. It would be soulless.”
