I don’t think acquiring better pitchers then him is mismanagement. He’s most definitely not coming back. That’s perfectly fine.

I wonder how many calls the Dodgers get about the availability of Casparius. Seems too good to be trapped in the pen
Wait, you ranked and wrote the update? Congrats, man!!
@mikepetriello.bsky.social is Bat Tracking data available for ST? Was curious to see if some guys have added speed during the offseason
The #bluejays need for additional power from the bench was clear. adding Sanchez clearly does that. They added a guy with an elite skills (bat speed) and ability to hit the ball hard is always a plus. Clear platoon guy
Isn’t that why they differed so much of the contract? to pull the AVV inline with expectations/market. They probably thought they were “underwater” when they agreed to sign him + losing a draft pick
I get the interest in trading for Kwan or Donovan but from an asset mgmt perspective it makes no sense to trade for guys with 2 years of control left. A lockout or shorted 27’ seems likely. Need to focus on pending FA’s or 29’ FA’s
Good things #BlueJays signed guys early. The way the Bo and Tucker contracts played out means they still have an improved team and are not left scrambling to add wins.
Still need some time to digest Okamoto signing with #BlueJays. First thoughts…Jays must like his defence at 3B enough/more than industry. A flexible roster becomes more flexible. Signing of Tucker or Bo a little less likely (even with a trade)
They must like the D at 3B enough to go ahead with the deal. Positional flexibility only increases
@bnsbaseball.bsky.social hey, do you think the payroll reporting you and Shi put out there at the start of the offseason contributed the angst blue jays fans have about this team? The reporting is now proven incorrect. How was that information sourced?
Won’t be a good deal in the end. But he wouldn’t bite at the shorter deal with higher per year salary (rumoured). Jays gotta pay the tax at the moment
Thanks for the reply. I can get the non sexy side of the last 2 off-seasons. Does the Ohtani and Soto pursuits create the expectation that fans expect the big moves to land? Even if those 2 pursuits were unlikely to result in success
Ha oh ya I think you could convince them that the Jays AAAA backlog is worth trading for
Based on no evidence other than Passan reporting he’s available Taylor Ward feels like a player this #BlueJays FO would love to acquire. He’s RH so maybe not the ideal fit but the other clear handed options Santander (high AAV) and Nootbaar (SLG) are not perfect fits either
@stoeten.bsky.social I really don’t quite understand the angst amongst Jays fans. Was it really the Varsho trade that set things off? Everyone looses their mind when a guy is signed regardless of team fit (Teo excluded). You’ve always been plugged in. What’s the deal?
$500 to $600 seems wild for vlad. Don’t think this Jays FO would do that deal.
Naylor would be an interesting get for the #BlueJays. 1 year remaining at $12 m with big power. Being 🇨🇦 doesn’t hurt either. What would it take? Not sure but Jimenez, Loperfido, Wagner, Lukes and Roden would (I think) address an area of need for the G’s
Well that was depressing… Although Arden often miss uses WAR when predicting team wins. 1 WAR doesn’t really = a win. Based on Fangraps current projects the #BlueJays have a WAR of 40.1 which roughly equates to 88 Wins. 2024 they had a Team WAR of 31.2 likely unlucky not to win around 80.
That’s promising!
Ya. Just checked. $20 mill over the base ($241).
Shapiro said payroll wouldn’t change much from 24’ where they entered the year with a $250 mill CBT hit. A modest 5% to 10% increase for the 25’ season would up the payroll to $262 - $275. #BlueJays seem to have some flexibility still. Maybe that’s optimistic…
One aspect of the Giménez acquisition is the long term $$ and aav of $19 mill (for CBT calculations). The Jays still seem interested in a starter and another bat. I’m gonna guess the reporting by Ben and Shi has been misleading creating angst amidst #BlueJays fans.
Cleveland’s return for Horwitz is likely a little sobering since I think a lot assumed he would net a mlb ready starter or high-leverage late inning RP.
Ya. I think the trade has better optics if they signed a bat like Santander first. I have a low bar for this FO making the obvious addition but Giménez makes them better
Schneider was quoted yesterday saying they wanted to improve base running. Giménez definitely does that.
It’s clear the #BlueJays didn’t view Horwitz as a 2B and his power profile wasn’t a fit at DH. DH is an easy spot for the jays to add a power bat
With the Giménez trade the #BlueJays have another + + defender (does that make vlad and Bo better?) a legit base stealer (60 SB the last 2 years) with decent power for an infielder 32 hr last 2 years) and a 6 WAR season under his belt. They got better as a result + more pen depth. Okay. That’s fine.
Emergency pod!!
Soooo #BlueJays are doubling down on d? Again? Odd addition. Trading Wanger? Lots of questions
