If slide design takes too long, this is for you 👀 (I have good news)
The vast majority who want to make better slides share a common concern: That it's going to take forever.
First, I won't lie: Slide design CAN take forever.
BUT....

🆕 Research suggests a conference poster format that outperforms BOTH the "journal article on a wall" and #betterposter formats.
The “Complete assertion headings” poster format!
🤔
Yeah, they should have workshopped the name a little more.

Admin and EdTech folks:
Stop suggesting that teachers use AI for teaching and grading and start giving teachers space and tools to actually help do our jobs.
Step 1 towards making more engaging presentations is to use more photos. But...you need to make sure you format them so they don't look weird.
That's where cropping comes in.
I put together a (hopefully) fun video about this to help.

You deserve a digital footprint that shares your research, teaching, and what you value as an academic (if you want one).

AI images in your presentations are not worth burning the planet. Also, they aren't good.
A promotional image for a **private tour of the PhD Career Clarity Program** with Jen. The image features a smiling woman with long brown hair and glasses, wearing a sleeveless gray top, speaking into a microphone. Behind her is a bookshelf filled with books. The right side of the image has a teal background with white bold text that reads, **"Private Tour with Jen"** and **"Learn about the PhD Career Clarity Program."** The rounded corners on the image frame give it a polished and approachable design.
I've started offering short private program tours to give faculty members, postdocs, and other PhDs ready to leave academia more info about my PhD Career Clarity Program and how (or not!) it will help them land their next meaningful job. If you're on my list, you got info about that earlier today!

@thomasjtobin.bsky.social oh hello! Nice to see you on here 👋
I shared in my newsletter that I'm giving away several of my handknitted items to raise funds for TransLifeline and other orgs that support LGBTQ+ youth.
I'll be matching all donations and raffling off items to those who give.

Ah I’ve not been on here much over the past few days. Hope it went well!
And I’ve heard the same for LinkedIn. So that’s why you’ll see people talk about their thing in the main post, and then add a comment with the link.
This also annoys me, and I’ve heard it’s because of the algorithm.
There’s this thing on insta where they ask you to comment a specific word and then they’ll DM you the link. It drives me absolutely mad!
It doesn’t seem to be about the curiosity gap. It seems to be about feeding the engagement algorithm.
Oh, thank you Anna!
Yes, I’d love to be included!
AERA, maybe?
Oh! Hmm. I hope that’s not how my post came across? I was not trying to give you any advice at all.
Ah so true!
I’ve seen this lack of training for presentation skills
If need some extra links for that topic, I would love to help with Professor School. I have blog posts and videos that may help!
Because man, #DeathByPowerpoint is really getting old.
One thing that all professors have in common in that we weren't trained for our jobs.
Now that I've been doing this for a few decades, I'm starting an occasional series called Professor School. It's not advice, just bunch of ideas and information to make things easier.

Yay!! 👋

I’m looking for people who also enjoy talking about or learning about slide design & creating nice presentations 🙌✨
I spend almost all day every day hanging out in PowerPoint or other creative apps & would love to connect/share ideas!

idk if PowerPoint counts as a SBP here 😅 but i have a few resources that may help. You can do…a lot better than word art. I promise 🥹
Depends on whether you mean photos or if you mean creating visual models of your material.
But here is one place to start maybe www.echorivera.com/blog/visual-...
