I'm starting to get extremely irritated with my generational cohort whining on the internet about how awesome growing up in the 80s was compared to how kids grow up today. We sound like our parents. Maybe stop taking away places kids can hang out for starters.

I gotta write a check to the IRS, so I will be dragging my feet until midnight today.

I pretty much hate golf courses. They fuck up watersheds and take up acreage that could be used to grow food or house people.
I don’t hate golf.
But I’d rather go fishing (in clean waters).
Art School Girlfriend is an awesome band name.
It feels amazing telling someone they did a good job. We all should do it whenever we see it.
Making someone else’s day makes your own better.
I'd love to see an aggressive pro-worker politician adopt this platform plank:
AI productivity increases must first be applied to growth, workload reduction, or employee upside before workforce reduction.
At the very least get it discussed in the public domain.
Real people get put on the street.
If they want to keep up, get another gig, they gotta pay an AI company a monthly fee to keep the tools they need to do it as a nice little FU from the "shareholders."
And the CEO gets another payout.
In our world shareholders reward margins, not employee-led growth and success. So an efficient, lean company with reduced risks across it's product portfolio (e.g. a company that doesn't keep it's engineers and create new products, but fires them instead) gets better margins, stock prices go up.
The thing is, the technology itself isn't the problem in a grounded environment with proper RAI, security, etc. The problem is how capital markets work around things like this, as evidenced by the recent Oracle layoffs.
It's all about the margins.
I live the AI reality in my work every day. There are things I can do in a day or two now that used to take me 2-4 weeks to accomplish. I can easily see that certain roles will be reduced by several factors with the same quantity of outputs and probably better overall quality.
We should send the VP around to stump for other people - the Russian guy, the Israeli guy, a bunch of American guys....
If a president is impeached and removed from office, all their pardons should be voided.

you guys have a gander at these cool blue mushrooms i saw 😊 werewere-kōkako (entoloma hochstetteri)
Power corrupts and all that.
I am sick and tired of unscrupulous people being granted power by the American people.
I turned my back on Clinton as a young man because he cheated on his wife. If your spouse can't trust you, how can voters?
Why don't we get this anymore?
Woke up early to go skiing one last time before the snow all melts, and am now waffling on driving 5 hours (round trip) for the pleasure.

Barred Spiral Galaxy NGC 5335
Image date: 23 April 2025, 16:00
The Hubble Space Telescope captured in exquisite detail a face-on view of a remarkable-looking galaxy. NGC 5335 is categorized as a flocculent spiral galaxy with patchy streamers of star formation across its disk. There is a strikin...
Good on the first lady for making people talk about the Trumpstein Files again, I guess.
A view I’ve long dreamed of. From Ryūganbuchi in Shizuoka Prefecture, gazing at Mount Fuji 🗻🌸 The cherry blossoms in full bloom and the majestic mountain together created a truly breathtaking scene.

I can't see cherry blossoms and not think about One Peace and Dr. Hiriluk now.
My own personal experience mirrors this. It's been a few years since I last went through the door, but what changed for me was 1) a deep sense of peace about the meaninglessness of it all, 2) an awakening to the beauty in all things, big and small. 3) An understanding of what beauty means to me.
I need a flag that says "Peace, Love, Dope" that I can fly next to our front door.
My hot take is that people should read whatever they want.
A full disc image of Earth, as seen from the Orion Crew Module. The planet is a pale blue, swirling with white clouds and glowing slightly lighter blue in place from reflected light. At lower left, a large brown landmass is Africa, with Spain and Portugal with twinkling lights where the planet curves. At top right, auroras glow in a thin green glow, just barely separated from the planet's surface. Earth is set against the black of space (pic: NASA/R.Wiseman)
More context on this #Artemis II image:
* This is the night side, lit by moonlight. You can see city lights in Spain & Portugal, & a sliver of day at lower right
* The Sun is entirely behind Earth, which makes it a kind of solar eclipse, but w/ Earth doing the eclipsing instead of the Moon:

Awesome view from Artemis II this morning.
At about this point in the launch I turned to my wife and said, "I think some latent PTSD just flared up. For a moment I was back in Government class in 11th grade watching the Challenger."
For the 2nd time in 20 some years I get to pay additional federal income taxes, so I am postponing doing my taxes until 4/15.
