There are more things in heaven and earth, Horatio,
Than are dreamt of in your philosophy.
all these universities kept axing medieval history departments as if they thought tyrants beefing with the Pope was going to stop being relevant
A WHOLE CIVILIZATION WILL DIE TONIGHT My son needs lunch, and I have to put his backpack together, but a whole civilization will die tonight, so I'm wondering if they've closed their schools. Like, a snow day, maybe, except instead of snow it's "keep your children home so if you die, you die together" — instead of "well open back up once the plows have cleared" it's "we don't know if we'll be here tomorrow, hold your babies tight." It's just "talk" I'm told, which I've been told before. "It's how the president makes his deals." But I've never heard anyone talk about other human beings this way, and I'm not certain I can look my son in the eyes if we all agree to stomach it one more time. A civilization will die tonight, but as I zip up his backpack and kiss him off to school I think: if this is what we call leadership then I'm not entirely sure ours isn't already dead. @michaelfdubois Mukad A QuBoy @michacifdubois
Brutal.
Elementary school homework with the alphabet at the top. The question says: imagine you are a wizard with a magic wand. What kind of spells would you cast? What magical things would you do? A child's handwritten answer: If I was a wizard I would make life easy. because there will be no wars and no crimenals. I will disapear every bad guy in the world so no one will get hurt. There is a drawing of a blue sky, a yellow sun, a black wizard with a wand in his hand, and a crowd of people. There's a caption bubble with the wizard saying no wars, and a caption bubble over the crowd that says everybody cheers
this is my nephew's homework and i'm gonna cry
Don't taco Tuesday this shit. Millions of people spent the day wondering if they would get vaporized, and no one in our government stood up to him. Nothing cutesy about it.
American cope-posting has convinced a lot of otherwise intelligent and politically aware people that there’s a burgeoning political revolution on the verge of breaking through the Democratic leadership and wiping out the GOP, and I don’t know how they’re gonna handle it when that doesn’t happen.
Terminator 2 scene: John Connor says, "We're not gonna make it, are we? People, I mean." The Terminator replies, "It's in your nature to destroy yourselves." John says, "Major drag, huh?"
I predicted someone like Trump many years ago, in THE DEAD ZONE. So now I'm saying this--in the next 12-16 months, we're going to find out if the two machines for the removal of a man unable to fulfill his duties actually work. They are impeachment and the 25th amendment. He is deeply unwell .
I thought I was sick of the thought of space travel.
Turned out I was really sick of billionnaire vanity projects.
What NASA's doing is incredible and has got me excited about space exploration again.
You develop an instant global consciousness, a people orientation, an intense dissatisfaction with the state of the world, and a compulsion to do something about it. From out there on the moon, international politics look so petty. You want to grab a politician by the scruff of the neck and drag him a quarter of a million miles out and say, ‘Look at that, you son of a bitch
This quote from Apollo 14 astronaut Edgar Mitchell has been in my head the last few days
Looks like 9/16 of an inch.
Just so you understand, this is as if you prepared for argument in front of a panel that included Cookie Monster, and Cookie Monster asked you a question about cookies, and you had not thought about cookies in advance.
America, we really need to have that talk.
Ha ha April Fool. You've actually been having a bizarre dream and it is in fact 1996 right now. We are all going to go watch the new Coen Brothers movie 'Fargo' later. I will call you on your phone that is attached to a wall and can't make you insane later.
A hand-drawn pencil sketch of Mordor with its mountain range and Mount Doom in the middle, which can be seen erupting, marked with red pencil.
A hand-drawn rough sketch of a map of Mordor, Gondor, and Rohan, drawn with black, red, and blue pens.
Tolkien's sketches of Mordor and Mount Doom and the map of Mordor, Gondor, and Rohan (1940-1948). The map was later redrawn by Christopher Tolkien. As Tolkien noted in a 1956 letter, Christopher worked nonstop for 24 hours to redraw it in time.

In which I say a bunch of things about getting older, about dying, and about art and legacy. Share if you care.
New local pizza place has a radically different ordering system: you call
them, order a pizza, and then they bring it to you.
No app, no subcontractors, just a teen who smells vaguely of weed bringing you a pizza.
Innovative!
Remember when Ursula K. Le Guin savaged J.K. Rowling in a 2004 Guardian interview? “I have no great opinion of [JK Rowling’s writing style]. When so many adult critics were carrying on about the “incredible originality” of the first Harry Potter book, I read it to find out what the fuss was about, and remained somewhat puzzled; it seemed a lively kid’s fantasy crossed with a ‘school novel’, good fare for its age group, but stylistically ordinary, imaginatively derivative, and ethically rather mean-spirited.”
Let’s not forget what Ursula K. Le Guin had to say about JKR and Harry Potter.

"Later that night, around 2AM, the little robot was found on its back, its wheels endlessly spinning, while a feral, blood-covered Gritty ate the cheesesteaks from its ruptured belly -- cheesesteaks the robot was once meant to deliver."
Can’t wait to vote his ass out. Even worse than a republican. Trying to masquerade as a democrat and then switching sides once in office to me is worse than just running as an R.
I’m in the same boat. I have students who fail open note, open book quizzes even after I give the questions in a study guide they can use on said quiz. I don’t know if it’s apathy or a more worrying explanation…
Bleed, bleed, poor country!
