A hand-drawn pencil sketch of Mordor with its mountain range and Mount Doom in the middle, which can be seen erupting, marked with red pencil.
A hand-drawn rough sketch of a map of Mordor, Gondor, and Rohan, drawn with black, red, and blue pens.
Tolkien's sketches of Mordor and Mount Doom and the map of Mordor, Gondor, and Rohan (1940-1948). The map was later redrawn by Christopher Tolkien. As Tolkien noted in a 1956 letter, Christopher worked nonstop for 24 hours to redraw it in time.

Trewsday is the Hobbit name for Tuesday! Tolkien Trewsday is a community event across several online spaces: Twitter, BlueSky and now the Tolkien Society Discord server. Each week we form a fellowship to collectively post about a pre-selected theme about Tolkien (his works and his life) as well as adaptions, academic writing and creative stuff such as fanfic, fanart and cosplay. Themes are selected by myself (the organiser) and also via polls or guest hosts/curators. Together we will build a collective outpouring of creativity, knowledge and love for J.R.R. Tolkien. The inspiration for this comes from the highly successful #FolkloreThursday which engaged lovers of Folklore, academics, artists and more to share their love of folklore. We only ask that if you are joining in, please do so with courtesy and kindness in your posts/tweets. This is a positive-action community event, open to all and supportive of fan diversity. Intolerance, racism, bigotry have no place here. Thank you! A new year means a new design! In 2025 the Two Trees remain symbolic but now Telperion (Silver Tree) has a sword trunk and Laurelin (Gold Tree) has a staff trunk.
🧙♂️🧵 2/ Let’s begin! This week’s theme (Week 162) is “Realms: Orcs”. Please use the following tags when you join in: #TolkienTrewsday #TolkienTuesday #Tolkien. You can tweet art, quotes, thoughts, blogs, academic work, reading recommendations, etc. 🗨️

A scanned illustration of The Hall at Bag-End, artwork by JRR Tolkien, made with pencil and black ink and depicting Bilbo Baggins standing in a carpeted round hall of his house, with the round door open. The image was taken from JRR Tolkien: Artist & Illustrator, by Wayne G Hammond and Christina Scull.
A black and white formal photograph of Jane Suffield in toga. The photo was included in The School Board Election poster, announcing Miss Suffield as the candidate for the central division.
On 29 January 1968, Tolkien sent a reply to Ken Jackson, who asked his permission to use "Bag End" as his house's name. Tolkien said yes since the name wasn't his invention.
It was the name of the home of Jane Suffield, his beloved, admirable, intelligent aunt. 1/5

Landscape orientation watercolour depicting, in the foreground, a row of soldiers in medieval armour with winged helmets and hauberks holding spears with black banners with silver stars on them blowing in the wind. On a bridge with towers, a group of people is taking leave. One of them wears a winged helmet as a crown. In the background are more buildings reminiscent of Romanesque architecture.
