Are these planted in the ground?

7 months ago 0 0 1 0

I wonder if this plant flowers when it’s a bit cooler… Temperatures are currently around 22’C. It is a bit warmer in the coldframe, but back in July it aborted a flower bud when it was +28’C. The coldframe easily heats up +5’C.#cactus #succulent #echinopsisoxygona #echinopsis #cactusflower

Echinopsis oxygona in bloom. First picture was taken around 23:00, about 1,5 hour after the flower opened. Second photo was taken at 9:00 in the morning. When I came home around 18:00, the flower was partially open. The next morning it stopped flowering completely.

Main downside is I have to remove the glass roof when it get’s hot and put it back on when continuous rain is predicted.#cactus #succulent #gymnocalycium #gymnocalyciumkieslingii #gymnocalyciumberchtii #gymnocalyciumragonesei

Gymnocalycium parade, G. berchtii and G. kieslingii respectively. In the group photo on the left is G. ragonesei. The warmer temperatures did their work. I grow them alongside Ptero- & Austrocactus in a coldframe with steel mesh (for fresh air) on all sides.

Gymnocalycium berchtii (VS0161). The coming days it will be a lot warmer (+30C) and clear skies. Hopefully the flower will completely open up. I can’t immediately find other pictures of the same species with the same flower color. Anybody else has this plant?

Perhaps I should dilute my fertilizer solution and place them in the cold frame earlier in the season.#cactus #succulent #succulents #pterocactus #pterocactusaraucanus

New growth on a Pterocactus araucanus (SAR 9042) seedling from 2023. Under my care Pterocactus grows a bit more elongated than in habitat. Not unexpected. This issue is even more present when I grow them for seed.

patriciae is characterized by it’s solitary growth. S. hertusii on the other hand clusters. My plant is forming offsets at the base. Unless that is not the same as ‘clustering’. They also write S. hertusii has dark violet anthers, but images on Llifle shows both species with yellowish anthers.

Anyone in the room who can tell whether this is a Sulcorebutia patriciae or hertusii? It was labeled S. patriciae when I got it. S. patriciae is supposed to have yellow and longer spines compared to S. hertusii. The spines on my plant are white. According to J. d. Vries and W. Gertel S.

Also, your distinction between drag and lift is an important one. 🙏

O.k. Given the Sarnes publication is more recent and they have a lot of field experience with the habitats of Pterocactus, I’m inclined to follow the observation wind is only partially responsible for seed dispersal. They do say, actually, it remains to be seen.

Thank you the information. It seems wind is only partially responsible. I don’t have acces to the publications, but Sarnes’ research builds upon Kieslings. They travelled with him to the Pterocactus habitats. What does the non-Kiesling publication say?

Here is a link to the publication by Sarnes. On page 10 and 11 they expand the structure of the seeds. cactus-de-patagonia.de/wp-content/uploads/2023/...

Are you sure they’re dispersed by wind? I was under the impression they’re too heavy to be dispersed that way and that that theory is disproven. Among others by Elisabeth & Norbert Sarnes, a couple who specialize in that particular genus.

New leaf development on a Monstera deliciosa is always fascinating. I imagine they’re alien spaceships coming down to earth. Unfolding the closer they get to the surface. #monstera #monsteradeliciosa #alienspaceship

Depending on your growing conditions you can water it every 2/3 weeks in the spring and summer.

Do you agree on the fact it’s not o.k. to refer to this image as a photograph by a photographer? Or not really? You also imply that it is an image of an existing place. I’m not convinced that that is the case.

I can’t find anything on Bluesky’s policy on AI-generated images. It would be good to change the terminology since it’s technically not a photograph and thus there is no actual photographer. I perceive it to be misleading.

I think it is AI as well. I don’t think it’s correct to call the image a photograph, the same goes for reffering to the creator as a photographer imo.
