“The chip on the shoulder that is part of Philadelphia DNA is very, very strong with Julie K. Brown“ — @jaketapper.bsky.social
A difficult childhood in Bucks County and years at the Philly Daily News helped @miamiherald.com reporter @jkbjournalist.bsky.social expose #Epstein and connect with victims.
My profile of Brown for the @inquirer.com

@jkbjournalist.bsky.social , the woman who took down Jeffrey Epstein was forged in Philly.
My profile for the Philadelphia Inquirer.

Three takeaways from @jasonnark.bsky.social’s excellent profile of @jkbjournalist.bsky.social:
1. All news is local news, even an international conspiracy.
2. Julie is a boss and we owe her a debt for her reporting.
3. Philadelphia remains the center of the universe. share.inquirer.com/cTVEY6

Take a moment to look away from the horrors and read a delightful story about a woman who's devoted her life to helping rehab injured/sick bats. By @jasonnark.bsky.social for @inquirer.com. share.inquirer.com/tqq9Iq [gift link] #bats 🦇 #conservation #GreenSky
There is no tradition in the commonwealth of Pennsylvania like the Farm Show Butter Sculpture.

A Scranton neighborhood group put a “hometown hero” banner of Joe Bide, who was born there.
Controversy ensued, of course.

All of Philly's Michelin-starred restaurants get their caviar from one guy: A dude named Gary, an ex-night club owner who delivers thousands of dollars of fish eggs like the milkman.
“It’s about the way you make them feel," he said. "Chefs like when you hold their hand."

Have you read fiction where an animal is the main character, but not necessarily anthropomorphized like Animal Farm or even Watership Down?
Is Jaws written from the shark's perspective?
Today is Survivors of Suicide Loss day, for everyone left behind. I processed the death of my beast friend mostly by writing a lot. It wasn’t always healthy. This piece for The Alpinist took about 8 years.

I’m really hating how Christmas is man-spreading its fat, veiny thighs into Thanksgiving.
Men, for real, just get a dog. Take it for walks.
Go to parks, breweries, etc. Life will find a way.
Last night I was at a bar in NYC and “What a fool Believes” came on.
Five Black women walked in and lost their minds: hand’s up, hips moving, in utter joy.
I felt joy.
When it was over I asked them if Michael McDonald was the most soulful white dude.
“Oh, he’s the one.”
Thanks !
“A cabin is like a dream, a simple place where you can become the best version of yourself. You might whittle a walking stick by the fire or cook bacon on a skillet while your new buddy, a red fox, waits for scraps.”
@jasonnark.bsky.social’s difficult journey to Dick Proenneke’s Alaskan home:
The New York Times called Delco ‘rural America.’ But it did get a key part of ‘Task’ right. My opinions for the @inquirer.com

Michael Days, a pillar of Philadelphia journalism who championed young Black journalists and was beloved among reporters who worked for him at the Philadelphia Daily News and Philadelphia Inquirer, died suddenly on Saturday at the age of 72 in Trenton.
Samuel Douglass, a Vermont Republican legislator who faced bipartisan condemnation after participating in a long-running group chat that routinely used racist and antisemitic language, said on Friday that he would resign. He was one of a dozen young Republicans who had participated in the texts.
I took great pics of my ex-wife. I bet she's using them on dating apps.
I signed up for the @nytimes.com again just to read this and say that Delaware County is not rural America. Not even close.
