Refactoring success. Its now way easier to manage the context based A-Button, and the Entity system is a lot more SOLID.

Pots are now throwable and breakable. A very important feature for this style of game.

Just out of curiosity whats the difference between a context based sprite manager and using a state machine to control animations?

1 month ago 1 0 1 0

I struggled big with making the sprites arms hold the pot above their head. Just looked too weird for me, so I opted to make pots just breakable on attack. Might figure out a way to make it work down the line, because I agree on it being important.

Implemented really easily. Now what could on the other side of the door?

Thank you! This might be crazy, but I had the idea of creating a door node with an attached Area2D that checks for blocks in the "key" group. That way I could place the door, drag the area2D anywhere in the room. Give anything the "key" group. Then change the door texture and collision when true.

Very very very busy fixing bugs and preparing everything for a last pre-release demo! So I'm sharing actual screenshots for #screenshotsaturday now featuring all three borders that can be used on the non-gameboy versions of the game #gamedev #indiedev #gbstudio #gameboy

I welcome any and all ideas. Each room I want to sort of learn and apply a game concept. I could add a locked chest, with breakable pots containing a key. Inside the chest a dagger. The next room could contain an enemy. Feedback and ideas or conversations welcome. New devs feel free to chat.

3. A mechanic to push boxes. This was way harder than I thought. I had to figure out a way to get collision data manually. This leads me to my next goal. Lock the door to this room. Create a system where the door unlocks when the block is in the right spot. What's beyond the door? Who knows? (2/3)

After too long of a break, I have lost a lot of mental progress in development. So I decided to start from scratch and relearn things in a step by step way. 1st. I added the character movement (states/components). 2. A new dungeon Tileset. (1/3)

My take on a dark fantasy Zelda-like. Something more unique is there's a sorta home/hub for the player in the form of a school of dark magic.

Realistically, I am learning gamedev by making small sections of a game idea I've had for years. Piece by piece. Thank you for the kind words!

Mock up of the inventory screen. Would appreciate some feedback and questions.

The idea is that this will slide up when you hit tab. You'll be able to select your items here, and assign them to a loadout. Also a nice description box and map.

The two dreaded coding hurdles are semi complete. Save/Load and Dialogue. Both, not as bad as I thought. Using Dialogue Manager which is pretty easy to understand, but I sorta dislike not really knowing what all the bits do.

House interior set nearing completion. Also UI mock-up.

The idea is the player can set "loadouts" of magical items in groups of 3's and cycle through them with Q/E. That way you can have one for ranged, melee, and utility for example. Thoughts?

Some sprites I made as I hone in on the style I like. Also working on some melee attacks for early game, but those aren't ready yet.
