We always hear about how much this guy is/was paid, but never what actual improvements he's responsible for.
It does seem like once you've achieved a publicly funded high salary, you can jump from one to another, and another, with little regard for job specifics or track record. #spéirgorm

I think an important consideration is to learn how to use technology, but not to let it be the medium, so that it always remains a tool & not a lifestyle.
I have sets of relatives who were raised & schooled with and (largely) without screens respectively.
The difference is substantial.

A detailed documentary photograph shows a group of diverse protesters, many in wheelchairs, marching down a Dublin city street towards the camera on a sunny day. A central figure, a man with a ponytail and glasses, holds up a prominent green, cloud-shaped sign that reads 'Heat or Eat #Budget26'. To his left, a man in a power wheelchair holds a smaller, matching green sign. Other individuals, in va
Ireland has Europe's highest electricity prices, yet targeted disability supports are missing.
Govt says a €400 payment isn't "sustainable." We say ignoring the year-round cost of disability isn't an option.

A butterfly with red and black patterned wings sits in the palm of someone's hand.
Haven't seen this type of butterfly (?) before but there are a couple of them dancing around the cherry tree.

I wouldn't say it's underlying.
Government set #disability welfare below the poverty line, continually underfunds disability services, including in health & education, & does little to make spaces, transport, workplaces or a good quality of life truly accessible.
That's overt #ableism. #Spéirgorm

This government, that he was happily a part of up until now, have been letting people down in terrible ways for a long time.
They refused a one-off €400 payment for struggling #disabled people... which would have cost less than a quarter of the half billion they suddenly produced.

Deliberately underfunding services for disabled people while also keeping disability welfare below the poverty threshold is a kind of pernicious, soft eugenics.
People's whole lives are seriously harmed by these choices.
And when half a billion euro can be conjured up, it is definitely
a choice.
The world watched as Israel razed Gaza to the ground.
Now, the world is watching as Israel razes Lebanon to the ground.
War crimes beget war crimes — and the failure to bring Israel to justice for genocide has emboldened it to destroy human life with total impunity.

Ah yes, what a surprise... a special deal can be conjured up for these *particular business interests*.
Meanwhile, government refused to address spikes in living costs and consistent structural poverty of #disabled people, by as little as €400.
Totally normal, good governance.

It's now been 3 hours since our supposed "ally" Donald Trump threatened genocide on a country of 93 million people.
We've had absolutely nothing from the UK government.
This doesn't come in a vacuum either - every day the US & Israel have been murdering innocent people.

The spectator. Zacked off. A pretty ludicrous image of Zack with Hannah and Mothin chopping down trees and harassing badgers!
Erm....
Are these people ok?
I don't think they're ok.

At almost every interaction with carers or people with disabilities, the state creates uncertainty, friction and unnecessary misery.
I'm still waiting for news of the 'core basket of services' for carers promised in 2020.
Amnesty International say what is happening in Palestine is a genocide.
The UN Special Rapporteur say it's a genocide.
Countless genocide scholars say it's a genocide.
How are we still doing this? And why is the BBC doing this?

This St Patrick’s Day government authorised a US military cargo plane to land at Shannon Airport on its way back from delivering munitions to Israel.
US military cargo deliveries to the IDF's Ovda Airbase are critical to the Israeli state.

Composite image of a historical manuscript page divided into three sections: Left, an illustration of St Patrick in red robes holding a staff, labeled "S. Patrick." Top right, a scene depicting an angel with colorful wings interacting with a harp. Bottom right, a detailed illustration of clover. The style is medieval.

According tradition, St Patrick used the shamrock to explain the concept of the Holy Trinity. The symbol became linked with his teaching and remains central to modern celebrations. ☘️

Something so horrible about this.
Like our population is livestock and this was an elite meat market.
On disability, I would favour recognising that disabled people have generally higher living costs & various other needs to meet by having the floor of a UBI plus whatever disability welfare previously was in place. Equality via UBI, recognition of disability and reduced capacity for labour on top.
Applying a UBI in itself increases equality in that everyone is given the same amount, but it doesn't address very inequal access to other incomes via labour, and UBI doesn't specifically recognise any care work if applied universally to people engaged in full time care and those who aren't.
I think UBI could be generally good, but I think it should co-exist with (not replace) existing schemes for vulnerable groups. Care work will always reduce your time/access to a job, a specific disadvantage that anyone who isn't a carer won't face.
In many European countries, family carers can/do recieve specific payments - Carers Allowance in Ireland, Plegegeld in Germany, APA/PCH in France etc. I think my point is pay/recognition of the care work specifically, and how access to the labour market remains inequal to those with time.
Sometimes I get stuck thinking about how cars have kind of transcended their utility, with people responding to them like they're naturally occuring objects, with road deaths an unavoidable part of that nature.
It's just weird, that we accept it causes regular death, like storms or heart attacks.
UBI doesn't necessarily address economic inequality faced by carers or people w. disabilities unless the same/better levels of relevant welfare remain in place alongside a UBI, as these groups are in part defined by reduced or no access to the labour market, unlike the general working population.
Right, so what Kneecap stand for is completely intolerable
...meanwhile attempting to further impoverish disabled people, aiding a genocidal apartheid regime and supporting and promoting 'best pal' of Epstein, Peter Mandelson sit *within* the 'tolerable' range of this man's sense of politics. Ok.
