The hidden history of Britain’s fight for queer rights Several new books explore the LGBTQ+ lives and narratives that have all too often been ignored

For The Observer, I’ve written about growing up under the shadow of Section 28, bi erasure, and the role of the Bishopsgate Institute’s archive informing new books on LGBT+ history that offer resistance and lessons in our own increasingly intolerant times

Really lovely to have Tales of the Suburbs featured in this beautiful article by Luke, also taking in the marvellous Bishopsgate Institute and the brilliant history of Switchboard, The Log Books

Thanks so much for coming to the event Tim, it was so great to see you again & be able to share our collective memories of John 🧡📚

I wish he had been there.

I went for John but then Adam talked about what he called 'violence of silence' of Section 28. I hadn't really thought about how it affected me, a queer teen during the AIDS crisis with no support from teachers etc. Always felt less impacted than older folks.

But I was.

Finally got a copy of The Log Books and got it signed by Tash and Adam! Great to see Tash again and finally meet Adam. John's ears would be burning wherever he is, cos he was mentioned quite a few times.

Reading his parts I got quite tearful but made it through the talk OK!

Three people stood infront of The Bookish Type sign in the bookshop with copies of The Log Books book. The person on the left is wearing a yellow fleece, Adam Zmith, the person in the middle has blue round glasses on Kit Heyam, and the person on the right is wearing a denim jacket, Tash Walker. They are all smiling.

Switchboard’s first night | Episode 1 | The Log Books John Lindsay, one of the founders of Switchboard

Somehow I missed this - posted up the intervew with my late partner, John Lindsay as part of The Log Books podcast Series 4, episode 1. He was one of the founders of Gay Switchboard.

Tash spoke at John's funeral.

Had a great, uplifting afternoon, along with other members of @switchboard.bsky.social at an event for the launch of 'The Log Books: Voices of Queer Britain and the Helpline that Listened'. Authors Adam Zmith & former Switchboard Co-Chair Tash Walker came to discuss the book and answered questions.

I haven’t talked about The Log Books: Voices of Queer Britain and the Helpline That Listened yet, but it’s so good!

The archive material is rich, the authors are incredible, and it’s been a total privilege to help a little with the context.
