The Year in Biology | Quanta Magazine Take a jaunt through a jungle of strange neurons underlying your sense of touch, hundreds of millions of years of animal evolution and the dense neural networks of brains and AIs.

AI is nothing like the brain. And that’s okay.

AI Is Nothing Like a Brain, and That’s OK | Quanta Magazine The brain’s astounding cellular diversity and networked complexity could show how to make AI better.

An absolutely fabulous article that everyone needs to read. The title sums up my view on this perfectly and the article articulates it well.

I actually did it at the beginning of the year and then again towards the end so we could talk about network evolution. Many of the networks were too sparse at the beginning! But the different ways of defining friendship also evolve differently which is fun.

I used to have my students take a survey to build a class friendship network where I had different types of questions that essentially defined friendship in different ways so they could see how that biases network structure. That said- you have to check with your university to see if you need an IRB
