Here’s some Trevor Henderson art to make your Thursday a little better. One of my favorite artists.
I'm horribly predictable. The Crow, Lost Boys and Spawn.
Next Sunday afternoon I'm talking about my book Spider, Spider at Hestia Books in Wirksworth.

That would be awesome if it were possible but you'd need to be really knowledgeable about AI tools.
I gather some visual artists have developed watermark tools that fuck with ai.
There's been deaths (allegedly?) contributed to by ai but I don't know of any mushroom foraging ones.
That doesn't avoid the issue of ai trying to shove itself into every gap. But that would be very cool!
I am seriously tempted to get a typewriter for first drafting. But it's going to have to go in an ai-slop machine at some point at which point, it'll have no version history and therefore will look ai generated. Ha ha ha oh god
Jay: We hear the concerns about AI. Our goal is to use this technology to give people greater control, not to generate content. Attie uses AI to help you create custom feeds without having to know how to code.
"we hear you saying you absolutely do not under any circumstances want this AI clownslop and we promise we are working on solutions to make this AI clownslop even better so it can do even more things that you never wanted done!"

Ill be clear about why I am so angry and critical about it: Im seeing a good portion of my students who have imbibed the notion that they dont have to read, think or write for themselves because ChatGPT/CoPilot will do their thinking for them, and its terrifying. It should scare all of us.
Last week's #52frames theme was Low Key; I found this great lighting in the entrance to an East London tube station and made this image: Homeward bound underground.

An hour later. A friend from a whole different friend group: I'm in (small Welsh town) I'm going to see if they have your book!
This poor bookshop owner is going to feel like there's some kind of LC Winter mafia after them.
My friend: we're in (small town in Wales) and the book shop has your book!
Me: cool! That's near my parents and they've harassed the book shop into stocking it 🤣
My friend: we're now arguing about who gets to buy the last one.
I'll be chatting to Jess at Hestia books in Wirksworth on the 12th April 2-4pm. Tea and books on a Sunday afternoon - so civilised! Book here

On my substack this morning I've been thinking about the books that influenced me early in life.

In totally inconsequential stuff I just finished the Shivering Isles expansion of Oblivion Remastered and I think it is my favourite Elder Scrolls DLC.
The SI landscape recalls Morrowind and Bliss/Crucible might be the best ES city ever.
One of the horrible things about migraines is they make me dislike bright sunshine. Even in march I view it with suspicion, reach for the hat with a brim and the sunglasses, hide indoors. Bah.
I had a really nice chat last night with @ukcrimebookclub.bsky.social about my book Spider, Spider. With a DnD related diversion.
Thank you Caroline for making my very first interview a really nice experience!

They have a FB page too & it might be live there as well but as I don't have FB myself I'm not sure how that works!
Tomorrow night (12th March) at 7.30 I'm going to be on the UK Crime Book Club YouTube channel doing a live chat if you'd like to watch me flail about in my very first interview!
I'll be talking about Spider, Spider my gothic historical revenge story.

A large pile of books with dark pink edges. On top is a book facing outwards showing the cover of Spider, Spider by LC Winter.
'Dozens of novels are published annually that fall into this subgenre, but this is one of the most original in recent years.' Sunday Times - Nick Rennishaw.
'Gloriously gothic' DV Bishop

Thank you Angela! It was wonderful to see you. I hope we manage a bit more time together soon because it was all too brief! ❤️

I was thrilled to join @lcwinter.bsky.social at her book launch for #SpiderSpider on Friday night published by @duckworthbooks.bsky.social
This is a deliciously dark novel and if you enjoy historical crime and gothic vibes you’ll love it.
Shout out to @fiveleavesbooks.bsky.social for a fab night
Thank you! I'm now lounging determinedly with cats and chocolate 😄
I'm recovering after a mad few days book signing in London one day and York the next, my book officially being published and then a launch party.
It's been an absolute dream come true!
