The Great Blue Heron is now at the top of the bank and bent over, stalking through the Dowingia flowers (hopefully) for gophers. In the background is a cluster of taller Alyssums.

Took these shots this morning through a rather dirty bedroom window but didn't dare show myself outside. Times like this I'm always reminded just how lucky I am. This is in south central Oregon. Luckier still if he managed to catch a gopher. 📸🦉🌏

A huge gray and black camouflaged moth sits on the dead trunk of a tree. It is larger than the handheld black and red sunglasses to which it is being compared.

Get a load of this moth the size of a hotdog bun, it's enormous!

This is apparently the adult of the famous witchetty grubs (multiple spp.) you probably learned are a component of Indigenous Australian bush tucker. #虫 🌎

Climate-Fueled Wildfires and Dust Storms Drove Up Air Pollution Around the World Last Year - Inside Climate News A new report shows air pollution threatens the majority of the world’s population, while information gaps increase the risks.

The report measured fine particulate matter (PM2.5), a mix of tiny particles of soot, smoke, and other substances that can infiltrate the lungs and bloodstream, causing harms from respiratory distress to premature death: insideclimatenews.org/news/2403202...? A view of Earth from the Artemis mission is a powerful reminder: this is the only known place in the universe where life like ours exists. 🌍

Protecting Earth isn’t about saving the planet, it will persist in some form — it’s about protecting, at least for now, the only home that sustains humanity.

The nature of business and the business of nature | AICD Climate change has been a focus of boardroom risk conversations for years. A landmark international report approved in Manchester in February 2026 highlights that nature loss is also emerging as a significant concern for organisations, and that the two issues are increasingly interconnected.

"Because all businesses depend on and impact biodiversity, they have a responsibility to act as agents of positive change."

This is one of the key messages of the IPBES #BizBiodiversity Report.

🌎🦉🧪 Next up in our bird vocalization series: the Brown Creeper. These tiny tree-climbing #birds are year-round Bay Area residents and begin nesting in March, building hammock-shaped nests behind loose bark. Their song is often remembered with the mnemonic: “trees, trees, beautiful trees.”
