Conference Golden Tip: Stick the Huntrix on your poster & only cool scientists will stop by to discuss your findings. ✨

Feels like a miracle each time we get a new paper out using public data. "Respect, healthcare utilization, and affordability among trans and gender diverse individuals" Epub ahead of print in @journalgim.bsky.social
doi.org/10.1007/s116...
Paper pinned to poster board says “As of June 3, 2025, VA withheld approval for this presentation due to the theme of the research.”
Nominating this for the @academyhealth.bsky.social Distinguished Dystopian poster award for #arm25.
Conference pro-tip: avoid the lunch hour rush by having lunch when everyone else is at the plenary 😅. #arm25
Quote bubble that says “I don’t make a big deal about being gay but it’s important.”
We asked older LGBTQ veterans and staff about their experiences with VA services.
Good morning, #ARM25!
How many banned words fit in one poster? Stop by A-77 this morning to find out! 8-915 am.

Nothing like taking out every “problematic” pub and project from your biosketch to make you realize how much you’ve done on a topic. 🫠
I want to take this NIH notice seriously. Grant pulled from study section. But I’m reminded of my ultra unserious username every time I see these letters. 😅
PhD programs need to provide seminars on selecting era commons usernames.
OK. Now that indirects are threatened, we’re finally hearing from University leadership about banding together with others to fight. Instead of memos on how to comply.
Would’ve been nice when trans research and programs were slashed.
But better late and self interested than never?
Bit surreal to have 2 new papers out on care for trans veterans.
And not know if the data or resources we evaluated will still stand next week.
Here’s paper 1: jamanetwork.com/journals/jam...
Screenshot of rejection email time stamped at 1:21am. Email text reads “Dr. Lee, Please find the attached decision letter regarding your application.”
Wow. Got my first rejection notice of 2025 at 1:21 am New Year's Day.
This has to be a record. Happy grant writing to everyone in 2025.
#academicsky
No one tells you how much of academia is grant writing.
And how much of grant writing is looking up the same effort %/ calendar months conversion table.
Yes! Tammy is (mostly) all those things.
Simply having a snack has solved my afternoon irritation/restlessness/lethargy.
Which means I now need a new excuse to not do work.
Watch out, Collaborators 🖊️
Using an old 💻 for travel and on this outdated MS Word, I can add comments without ctrl + Enter.
Gonna comment the heck out of this (already v good) revision.
Left hand making 🫰🏼while wearing fingerless glove
Happy Friday from a desk where I refuse to turn up the heat 🫰🏼.
(it’s not that cold, I swear)
Bowl of elbow pasta with bolognese sauce and sprinkle of cheese in the center of the pasta. Black text that says “lunch is the best part of working from home.”
Big bowl of pasta for lunch. So I guess I’ll be busy this afternoon “in preparation,” “brainstorming” and “considering next steps.”🥱😴🤫
Watching a K drama. Our detective is ONTO SOMETHING. Bc he’s just seen a pic of a room he recognizes- from when he was a 70 day old BABY 🐣.
This is why I love k dramas.
Good luck! If you’re doing in person sessions, food also makes people happy!
Can you provide incentives (different from benefit)? Gift cards are common tokens. People give a wide range. The key is threading the needle of what you can afford, what is enough to encourage participation, yet not so much as to be seen as coercion by regulators.
Research involvement may not always have direct benefit to participants and that’s fine. (eg “your involvement will not affect your care but may help us create xyz that may benefit patients in the future). Perhaps you could frame it that way?
The interpersonal work stuff- building teams, playing nice, managing up & down. Of course, a lot is context dependent, but some cases/principles/resources for problem solving would prob be helpful for many.
there’s something v jarring about venting with other Connected Healthcare Friends about how we can’t get vaccines or see pcps
then going back to writing grants & papers assuming a system that’ll somehow play by the rules and implement my small fix to ↗️ healthcare quality.
Cloth research poster with blocks of text broken in sections (text not readable by photo).
I’m always on the hunt for good looking #qualresearch posters #smdm23
This beaut had large block text for Background.
Pictographs for Table 1.
& just one quote per theme.
Poster with conflict of interest disclosure statement that reads “Our research team has no conflicts to disclose. (We promise we have not been bought out by Big Health Equity.)”
This I Believe: Conference posters should include dumb jokes to reward people who read them. #scicomm #smdm23
Heading to the #SMDM23 first-timers reception in a few! 🤞🏼it’s a real mixer and not an elaborate decision science hazing scheme.
Rolling out a privatized vaccine during an active pandemic seems… not great. 🙄
Just got email from Employee Health essentially saying “please get vaccinated but we can’t offer any Covid vaccines. How about a flu shot?”
Pharmacy shelves under a big “pharmacy” sign
CVS pharmacist. 7:45 am. Wednesday.
“Ah, you missed the rush. I just vaccinated 10 people.”
You love to see it. 💉😊
