Episode 52: William Golding: A Literary Colossus The first title that springs to mind at the mention of William Golding’s name is most often Lord of the Flies. The classic story . . .

Judy Carver (Golding's daughter) and Prof Tim Kendall @timkendall70.bsky.social discuss William Golding – a 'literary colossus' on the @slightlyfoxed.bsky.social podcast. An excellent listen.

Ours - a very nice, almost excessively polite man- had to read out the word 'bollocks' in Lord of the Flies and god the anticipation in our wretched infantile adolescent class. And he really went for it, bellowing it out properly so that it silenced any possible sniggering. I admired him deeply.

Lord of the Flies and the Second World War - Unseen Histories The Nobel Prize winning author, William Golding, responded powerfully to his experiences in World War Two.

Ever since its publication in 1954, Golding’s ‘Lord of the Flies’ has retained a powerful presence in English literature. The inspiration for the troubling events that ensue, Dr Nicola Presley argues here, can be found in Golding's own wartime experiences.👇
