I finished the first unseemly draft of my first unseemly novel 😭
Aw. Dan Simmons wrote one of the greatest novels, and I’ve enjoyed a ton of his work. What a bummer.
The paradigm shift comes with questioning why there must be a hand-off from product to engineering in the first place.

The world where this kind of emergent agent behavior is the norm. As the web makes itself more readily consumable by agents (Cloudflare creating a new “for agents” request header, for interest), means agents will stitch services together in ways that no one expected.
Why did the first person to eat a death cap mushroom do that? You'd think they would figure it out from the name
These are really, really amazing 🤩
Very cool.
Whoop whoop! 👐
In my goal-tracking app (which is kind of nano-petty, and I am sending a Finch on adventures) I have a lot of daily goals around long-form attention. “Read articles without skimming,” “read 15 minutes of fiction that’s not on a screen,” etc. big recommend.
Jonathan Stark has a value-pricing calculator, and elsewhere has written a bunch about how to think about pricing that I recommend. jonathanstark.com/vpc/
Hourly billing for engineering work is fundamentally incompatible with AI. If you are hiring contractors you need to revisit those contracts and renegotiate them as value-priced contracts; if you are a freelancer, you need to practice articulating a value you bring to the table other than time.
Our parlor does Friday the 13th flash event, and Naely and I had a couple hours to ourselves.
Product Engineering and Product Management are consolidating. Product engineers who are not proactively making strategic product decisions will obsolesce, just as product managers who are not proactively engineering will obsolesce.
This is the realest writing ever writ. "I used to have this dog, Shep. I thought Shep was a good classic name. I like one-syllable names for dogs. I lost him in 1995 and I couldn’t ever bring myself to get another one. I spend a lot of time alone."

A poetic sentence about not being present. "Everyone is very, singularly, focused on the end game. Everyone is also extraordinarily, profoundly, nostalgic."

My sleep deprived brain said "okay. yes. I want chess horror."
A new tense few minutes in the flash low-fantasy horror "Lady In Waiting," wherein a lady-in-waiting flees the kingdom long-walk style and struggles with exposure. This is the 7th episode, but they're "flash" - meaning ultra short. Human actors, no AI.

The new 28 Years Later did the remarkable thing of being excellent. At this rate this may go down as one of the best trilogies. Can’t wait for number three.
I find it requires an uncanny amount of energy to just coexist with and compartmentalize the worldsuck. That just doing laundry is a willful act of hope.
Cory Doctorow sez:
It started when Paul Nguyen got sick. Now the whole camp is on edge. Episode 04 of The Young (our coming‑of‑age horror actual‑play) is here - and you honestly don't have to catch-up through the other episodes. Summer‑camp 90s nostalgia.

Someone’s sick at Camp Whippoorwill in my latest episode of THE YOUNG. Back in Michigan 1995, four junior counselors come of age just in time for the zombie apocalypse.

My inner voice is a witchy philosopher Squarrior (a warrior squirrel) 🐿️ keeping itself centered with Mongolian throat singing - but still fundamentally whimsical squirrel easily distracted and hungry.
