China just completed a fully solar-powered high-speed railway — 2,800 kilometers of track from Beijing to Guangzhou running entirely on clean electricity.
A side-profile photograph of a White-faced Heron wading in shallow, dark blue water. The heron has sleek, blue-grey plumage with long, delicate feathers draped over its back and a distinctive white patch covering its face and forehead. Its sharp, longdark beak is pointed downward toward the water's surface. The bird is perfectly reflected in the still water below, which is broken only by several concentric, shimmering ripples radiating from where the heron stands. The background features the soft, dark reflections of tree trunks and overhanging branches, creating a calm and moody atmosphere.
Old pic of White-faced Heron taken with my beginner's Canon & 300mm lens for today's #BirdOfTheDay and #Reflections theme. 📷🐦
It was all so new & I remember thinking it was so cool to get that close! 🤩✨

A sunny view down a rushing river through woodland with tree buds just bursting. Wood anemones and wild bluebells growing in the foreground. Blue sky with clouds.

That calendar sounds awesome
A copse of trees silhouetted against a starry sky. Through the murky skyglow on the horizon, the extremely faint band of the Milky Way can just barely be seen.
Finally had almost a week of clear skies after such a dreary March. 🔭

In France, legislation came into effect recently for all car parks that have over 80 spaces to be covered with solar panels. Estimated to add around 11GW of renewable energy capacity to the national grid. Why not do likewise in Scotland? Braehead, Silverburn, Glasgow Fort etc.

Do it, enjoy it. Carpe Lego 🥳
Text reads: Olympics / The International Olympic Committee’s recent decision to reintroduce ‘sex testing’ for athletes is more likely to exclude women identified as female at birth than trans women, experts have said, as opposition to the policy change grows. Athletes, governments and experts have been objecting to the genetic sex testing that the International Olympic Committee (IOC) plans to reintroduce – including the scientist who originally identified the SRY gene that the tests check for.
The French government opposes the ban, saying enforced genetic testing is an invasion of privacy

Just going to send some positivity, peace and love out into the universe because we need a whole lot more of it.

“I, along with many other experts, persuaded the International Olympic Committee to drop the use of SRY for sex testing for the 2000 Sydney Olympics.
It is therefore very surprising that, 25 years later, there is a misguided effort to bring this test back.”
“The last time "DNA-style" (chromosomal/genetic) testing was used on a widespread scale, it was largely abandoned for being inaccurate in determining athletic advantage and causing severe emotional distress to athletes.”
“The Olympics stopped universal DNA-based "sex verification" testing in 1999, as it was deemed discriminatory and scientifically flawed, often unfairly targeting women with intersex conditions.”
Hmmm DNA testing for the Olympics, I wonder how that’s going to end? If only we had some past experiences to look back on…
It feels like something has shifted in Cardiff recently. It’s hard to describe but it noticeable. People are looking outward rather than inward. They are looking up. Smiling, helping, welcoming. I think a shadow has passed over. It feels hopeful again.
