Really enjoying dipping into #LboroCADay24 between teaching today. FOMO, as always with virtual attendance (especially when cakes are involved!). Now, Ann Weatherall is taking us through some lovely data from charity shop encounters to show the interplay of transactional and social talk.
December is relentless, so it was hard to drag myself away from the laptop this Weds for our staff-student meet-up at Bristol Christmas Market. But! It was a brilliant evening of silliness and non-academic chat (albeit with a smattering of schwa-related humour π)... Exactly what the doctor ordered π§ββοΈ

How many more language degree programmes will be axed? Even with AI, or especially with AI, we need linguists. How many single or combined major language degrees are still being taught at UK universities? Monolingualism is detrimental to society.
Thanks! I have since considered drawings, but back then in the complexity of data access, it was a bridge too far (e.g. I only had 24 hours' access to the first batch of footage). I do have some anonymised screenshots of the second batch which I aim to convert into sketches, when I figure out how..
