OPT provides short-term work visas for recent international graduate students in the US, allowing them to work after their student visa expires. It's a pipeline for jobs in medicine, biomedical research, education, technology, engineering, and other highly skilled work.

This is very, very, bad.

So emotional seeing my first-ever teaching evaluations! 😭 Creating all the materials from scratch was tough, but incredibly rewarding.

I put a lot of thought into what students need in the AI eraβ€”sharing the complete class materials here in case they're helpful: clsong.github.io/EEB_C234/01_...

March Mammal Madness fans, good news! @natickbobcat.bsky.social created a Starter Pack of folks involved in #2025MMM. I also converted it into a Bluesky List so you have both options. Happy species research!

The foundations of America’s prosperity are being dismantled Federal scientists warn that Americans could feel the effects of the new administration's devastating cuts for decades to come.

"The US took nearly a century to craft its rich scientific ecosystem; if the unraveling that has taken place over the past month continues, Americans will feel the effects for decades to come."

We should all be mad but for some additional context on where to direct the anger Universities and schools received this letter- basically they risk losing all federal funding if they don’t comply with the DEI orders: www.ed.gov/media/docume...

1 year ago 0 0 0 0

What kind of research do they consider "wasteful DEI"? Reading through the project descriptions (column N) and it's project grants studying:
-fentanyl overdose prevention
-earthquake disaster preparedness
-renewable energy
-kidney disease (and other healthcare topics)
-disability aid product design

Lucky enough to visit Antarctica over the holidays and met the best seals- figured Bluesky needed to meet them too

Oh for sure! It’s much easier to agree to review a paper 3-4 weeks from now- that’s future Amanda problem vs one due next week

Missed the poll but 21-28 days would be my preference. It takes a bit of time to be able to work it into the schedule

There is still space left in the #biodiversity #redistribution starter pack ⬇️ If you are working on or interested in biodiversity responses, aka #species #range #shifts & #community #composition #changes, to global change drivers, I'd be happy to add you in the list πŸ˜€

A seal snoozing in the sunshine on some ice.

Antarctica Day is on Dec 1st each year. It marks the signing of the Antarctic Treaty, which sets aside Antarctica as a continent for peace and science.

To help celebrate, here’s a photo I took a couple of years ago, of a seal which had clearly got the message about peace.

Happy #AntarcticaDay!!
