Dyspnoea patterns in patients with advanced diseases: a functional MRI feasibility study protocol Introduction Dyspnoea is an existentially burdensome symptom in patients with advanced and progressive diseases such as cancer, chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) and advanced heart failure....

Our study protocol to assess the feasibility of identifying dyspnoea patterns in different life-limiting conditions using fMRI and IVR has just been published:

'They saw them on their dishes when eating': The mushroom making people hallucinate dozens of tiny humans Only recently described by science, the mysterious mushrooms are found in different parts of the world, but they give people the same exact visions.

Lilliputian hallucinations: “visions of pint-sized, elf-like figures – marching under doors, crawling up walls and clinging to furniture.”
…can we link this to body perception and create a VR version?

Immersive virtual reality versus in-person performance assessment in undergraduate medical education – an exploratory comparison

before obtaining their degree, medical students have to pass their #OSCE - Objective Structured Clinical Exams, the gold-standard assessment, involving actors as standardised patients.
Happy to share, we have created a #VirtualTwin of these exams, including auto-assessment: rdcu.be/eOzyX #medicalXR

It’s so useful and unambiguous though when you use it correctly. maybe it’s a school book that was handed down and has your older sibling’s doodles in it… a stolen car… lab equipment when something suddenly does/n’t work.

Tried the tiramisu HMD now, too. Man. Kind of upset to go back to our standard headset 🤣 if they manage to combine this resolution with the FoV of the boba, we’re in trouble.

Hyperrealistic VR: a 90-PPD, 1400 nits and high contrast headset 😳

Tried to find an opportune moment when the line to test the meta boba HMD wasn’t too long 😅 NGL that extended field of view is amazing 🤯 SIGGRAPH2025
General critique of VR demos remains that… we need bodies in VR 🤣 enough with the disembodied views.

Art Gallery
We Are Entanglement
Fungi are everywhere, in the air, water, and soil, where they support and mediate between living and non-living. We Are Entanglement invites visitors into an immersive, interactive environment in which humans become part of the networks of communication through fungal networks beneath the floor of a forest. The artwork combines procedural modeling, generative Al, and dynamic simulation of vast numbers of living organisms. It is grounded in an imperative of drawing attention to the importance of nonconscious cognition and interspecies communication in biological and machine senses, as a reminder of the essential broader world around us.

or not. I’ll leave that up to you.
Here’s an interesting selfie (?) from the #SIGGRAH2025 art gallery. As you move around, or linger, your outline becomes intertwined / entangled with the fungi growing under a tree.
Kind of like being a postdoc.

Parasitic finger poster. Apparently the idea is inspired by tentacles and we’ll leave it at that.
