In our Thinking Machines series, we dig into Spike Jonze's Her—AI love, a voice-only performance that works completely, and why this film feels truer every year.

📽️ The postwar domestic melodrama trapped anxiety inside the house—and filmmakers like Sirk, Minnelli, and Ray coded their critique into Technicolor and decor. Film scholar Patricia White joins Andy to map the cycle from "Mildred Pierce" to "Home from the Hill." #filmsky

📽️ "WarGames" is live now for members (and a tease for everyone else!)—our Thinking Machines bonus asks whether WOPR is the film's most complete character, and how this movie actually changed federal law.

We dig into Donald Cammell's Demon Seed, the Thinking Machines series entry where AI gets personal—hubris, a smart home turned prison, Julie Christie, and a genuinely bonkers ending. #filmsky

What a title! I just love horror anthologies.

"The Escape Artist" is one of the more obscure films we've covered — Ricky Jay trained Griffin O'Neal to do real magic in one-ers. The results are something.
What drew you to this one? #filmsky #Magicians

📽️ The forgotten "Colossus: The Forbin Project" kicks off our Thinking Machines series. Live for members, everyone else next week!🎥
The AI works perfectly. That's the problem.
What does it mean when we build something smarter than ourselves?

📽️ Returning to our Magicians series with The Escape Artist, Caleb Deschanel's feature debut and a rarely seen American fable. Two sons, two very different fathers, one story that almost holds together.

So creepy!
Ghostface from Scream 7 … a promo shot from the Film Board Podcast.
Ghostface called. We picked up.
Film Board digs into Scream 7 — the chaos, the reveal, the AI angle, and whether the franchise has anything left to it. Tommy gives it sad stars. Steve defends it. @mandymiscast.bsky.social wants a musical. @itsmepete.com is easily swayed.

I need to revisit it again, even if we do t end up covering it on the show. So much fun! Classic 80s.
Now Highlander… there’s a movie I haven’t seen in ages. That would be a fun one to revisit and discuss on the show. Maybe the whole franchise
We covered it on our podcast but man, we could never do that weeklong conversation justice with a master like him.
It was a phenomenal week of conversation. So much to dig into with this film. It really made for an unforgettable experience.
Roger Ebert used to come for a conference every year to the Univ of Colorado Boulder campus and would host a weeklong chat about a film, breaking it down shot by shot, scene by scene. Dark City had just come out, which he loved, and he got permission from the studio to do his breakdown with it.
Talk about a filmmaker who knows intrinsically how to make beautiful images.
Love the cover art.
We're talking about it later this season as part of our Zhang Yimou series. I haven't seen it yet so am very excited to finally check it out. I've only heard good things!
We're gearing up to record about Colossus: The Forbin Project for our show next week, kicking off a new series called The Thinking Machines. Looking forward to it!

Worth it if you get the chance!
Two crazy people working together
Such a great movie. And a great doc about getting it made too!
