An astronomer told me once that they fought for me to be admitted to their PhD program, but I was rejected. They said that every time I succeed, they celebrate. I just want folks to know that there are people fighting for you behind the scenes who celebrate with you at every win.

similarly — if you really are interested in commenting for articles, put that out in the world! tweet about it! reach out to the science journalist you wish would contact you! I would definitely keep in mind someone who cares about scicomm, bc they’ll prob give lively and understandable quotes 👌🏻

Scientists I am BEGGING YOU: If you are like "wow ugh this science journalist never calls ME"🧪

Put your email in a place where we can find it. The email on your paper is defunct and from your postdoc. You don't have a current website since you moved unis.

This is science, not witness protection.

I got on a plane leaving NOLA at 6am today, and just now woke up in my bed at 4pm pacific time 🤣 I think that’s a spot-on indicator of how exhausted I was from #AAS243 (worth it though!!)

It’s not just the publishers that have books at #AAS243…we do too! 📚📖

Our books are very kiddo-friendly, for ages ranging from toddlers to bigger kids (plus a coloring book that is a joy for kids and adults alike!)

“Cactuses sleep just like us” — @amyoliver.bsky.social gave such a powerful talk about how to find what people care about (in the cactus example, master naturalists), and relate light pollution to that (bc unfortunately, not everyone automatically thinks it’s important!) 🏜️🌵
