Without action by government in this year's budget the University cannot continue to meet its core responsibilities - it touches on everyone. Just today in the news - cuts to the number of social workers that can be trained here. The long term consequences are dire.

Today we remember Cougar Flight 491, those whose lives were lost, and the loved ones left to mourn.
We reflect and we commit to fighting for safer working conditions for all.
News release: As the House of Assembly begins its legislative session, we are calling on the government to put workers and their families at the heart of its agenda.

On February 15, 1982, the Ocean Ranger disaster claimed the lives of all 84 crew members on board; leaving deep scars across our province.
Today, we honour their memory and renew our fight for workplace safety, because no one should have to sacrifice their life to earn a living.
The provincial government must move quickly to finalize a Pharmacare deal.
This is about ensuring that every Canadian, regardless of income or employment status, has access to the medication they need.

Our thoughts are with the family, friends, and colleagues of the worker injured at Voisey’s Bay. We wish them a full and speedy recovery.
Safety must always be our number one priority to ensure every worker returns home safely at the end of each day.

One of the ways to address the cost of living crisis is for workers to take home more pay, and the best way to accomplish this is to form a union.
Government must reduce the barriers that exist to workers organizing their workplaces.
Workers and their families are forced to make "tough decisions" on basics while while corporations and billionaires rake in massive profits.
Another 4 - 6% increase in food prices will make it even tougher on people who are already struggling.
A big thank you to the workers braving the elements to restore power after last night's storm.
Stay safe out there!
The rights to free and fair collective bargaining and to strike are under attack. Worker and their unions must stand united to protect these rights.

Excellent meeting and discussion today with Premier Wakeham on a wide range of issues, including labour relations, occupational health and safety, trade, local benefits, and the importance of creating good jobs here at home.
Workers are already feeling the pinch. In response, wages need to keep pace with inflation, laws must make it easier to unionize, social supports have to reach those most at risk, and we must rein in profiteering by grocery giants.

Today, we solemnly mark the anniversary of the misogynist attack at École Polytechnique in Montreal. On December 6, 1989, fourteen young women were murdered because they were women.
We remember. We mourn. We act.

They shall grow not old, as we that are left grow old:
Age shall not weary them, nor the years condemn.
At the going down of the sun and in the morning
We will remember them.

Shame on the Alberta government for using legislation to strip workers of their right to strike and to free and fair collective bargaining.
We stand in solidarity with the teachers and all workers who oppose these heavy- handed measures.

MUN plays a crucial role in our province. It has a special obligation to the people of this province.
That obligation can't be met without proper funding.
We stand in solidarity with the students, faculty, and staff who are fighting to protect this vital institution.

To be crystal clear: it's not about what the scientists "told CBC News", not just informed opinion. The science itself is very clear. You can question perhaps the degree of NL contribution to climate change, but it's fact that the oil from here is a contributor. Full stop. www.cbc.ca/news/canada/...

The advantages of unionization are obvious, so why don’t more workers join unions?
Employer-led union suppression strategies are a key explanatory factor.
