I am once again saying, as a cis person, that what is being done to and against trans people right now is unacceptable.

Philly-area friends: I'm hosting a book discussion group next week about The Marriage Portrait by Maggie O'Farrell, relating to this month's Ferrara-centered concert program by Piffaro. Hit me up for more details if you're interested!

TEXT: Libraries are a model for the kind of publicly minded, livable communities that electeds like Mayor Mamdani so eloquently advocate for. I’m writing this from a New York Public Library, surrounded by neighbors and a few tourists who are working, reading, and resting. I can see laptops, notebooks, open magazines. Parents and babies are toddling in for a read-aloud in the back, there’s a table nearby where people are picking at jigsaw puzzles, and a guy in a lounge chair across the room keeps saying “wow” at the art book he’s flipping through. These spaces are more than just an archive of objects and services, they are the city itself in miniature.

Hi! I’m trying to order Chromatic Magic but the site suddenly doesn’t want to ship to my Pennsylvania address no matter how I enter it — is something up or is it just me?

I thought I would be super-cool and just casually hop up onto the low stage my band was about to perform on. I am not actually cool, and failed the hop so badly that I bruised my whole hand and sprained my thumb — which immediately started swelling up, right before I had to play.

I thought it was brilliant. Elegantly plotted, building up to some seriously FEROCIOUS rage — so cathartic!

Fictional characters I would take a bullet for:
Thara Celehar (Cemeteries of Amalo series)
Cleric Chih (Singing Hills cycle)
Murderbot - although it probably wouldn’t want me to, so I guess Dr. Mensah
A gnole (World of the White Rat) - any gnole, any time, no questions asked

If there's one thing I loved about being in a No Kings protest today, it was the feeling of solidarity giving me hope for this nation and its people.

If there's a second thing, it's how all the various dogs had NO idea what was going on, but LOVED it.

America’s Burgeoning Fleet of Book Bikes A growing group of booksellers, librarians, and literary citizens is distributing books to the American reading public by bicycle.

There really is something romantic about books on boats, bikes, etc., isn’t there?

Just now while sitting on the train I realized that 1) my shirt is inside-out and 2) the artist drop I woke up early to check compulsively every five minutes is actually *next* Friday. Day’s off to a great start, woooooo!!

Ah yes, INDEPENDENCE Day Eve, where for many centuries people would shop at INDEPENDENT Bookstores in preparation for their big celebrations. What? You're saying that's not a thing? Huh, well, it's a thing if we make it a thing.
