Surrendur transmits the stories of Mike Forcia (Bad River Anishinaabe-the
American Indian Movement activist who orchestrated the toppling of a monument to Christopher Columbus-and Ta Pe'juta Wičháhpi Win (Hunkpati Dakota Oyate),
whose political consciousness was awoken when she danced around the fallen statue with her daughter. The George Floyd Uprising, the Anishinaabe Seven Fires Prophecy, and the Dakota 38+2 Memorial Ride are interwoven through the director's unique style of editing nonsynchronous 16mm film and sound. Oscillating between intimate conversation and kinetic montage, Surrendur traces the riverine network of migration and homecoming, chance encounter, and carefully cultivated collaboration that drew Pandian into deep relation with Forcia, Win, and other luminous activists and artists from Minneapolis, the heart of revolt at the centre of Turtle Island.
1 Translated from Tamil as manasu, meaning both heart and mind.

I came to Minneapolis to report on what's going on, and one of the main questions I showed up with is "just what is the scale of the resistance?" After all, we're all used to the news calling Portland a "war zone" or whatever when it's just some protests in one part of town.

Oglala Sioux Tribe accuses federal authorities of treaty violation after four members detained by ICE “Members of the Oglala Sioux Tribe are United States citizens. We are the first Americans.”

The Department of Homeland Security is refusing to release information on 3 detained Oglala Lakota tribal members who are being held at Fort Snelling, a former concentration camp for Native people, unless the tribe enters into an immigration agreement with ICE.

semi-regular reminder that ICE was only created in 2003

when you are asked to imagine a world without ICE, you're basically being asked to remember where you were when Lilo & Stitch came out

A typed poem titled "REVOLUTIONARY LETTER #96: POEM AT DAWN" reads, "Empire is its own undoing." The author, Diane di Prima, is credited below the poem. The text appears on a plain white background.

How timely still, now: a powerful exhibition of early 2000s protest signs by local antiwar activist Bill Jennings, installed at the historic Shaker Meeting House in Harvard, MA. Curated by @luciddecapitation.bsky.social and @transientbummers.bsky.social

My mom and stepdad are from the same diaspora group as Zohran Mamdani’s dad (same like “my stepdad was kicked out of the same town and knows some of his classmates”) and apparently the New York Times doesn’t understand how diaspora works, so I am going to tell you a little about my mom’s people!

Mamdani does what I've been calling constructive politics: appeals to identity as a building block of solidarity rather than a replacement for it. love to see it

The armed, yellow-vested "peacekeepers" at the Utah 50501 protest in Salt Lake City opened fire into a crowd, hitting two people:

A Sāmoan fashion designer with two young kids, who died.

A second-generation Venezuelan immigrant and antiracist protester who was legally carrying. Cops charged HIM.
