Was such a treat to give a seminar at the USGS CalVO yesterday!

If giant supereruptions tapping rhyolites stored up to 1 GPa are more your cup of tea, come check out my second #AGU2025 talk tomorrow morning at 9:20am (352).
Rhyolite for the win!!
Come check out my AGU talk tomorrow at 4:15pm (350-351) on our rhyolite-MELTS modeling which illustrates highly efficient crystallization directly from basalt to rhyolite fueled recent volcanism at Córdon Caulle.
A grayscale back scattered electron (BSE) image of a feldspar with a dark, patchy, resorbed core, from which a bright oscillatory zoned region has grown.
Multiple intergrown oscillatory zoned sanidine crystals emanating from a shared dark, resorbed plagioclase core.
It’s a good day for exploring some wacky BSE zoning textures in feldspar.
Come check out my #IAVCEI2025 poster tomorrow afternoon (1.7.12; poster 25) to chat about complex supereruption plumbing systems and deep rhyolites!
10/10 favorite fall deposit!!
New paper out! 🌋 We used rhyolite-MELTS in some unconventional ways on the spectacular Cordón Caulle system and learned that it is feasible that these rhyolites fractionated directly from a basaltic mush. Was such a fun project with great people.
