This fabric looks like a delightful choice for that pattern!

I'm convinced that the only reason why I start another quilt is the immediate amnesia that sets in after I finish one - wiping out the memory of the time, tedium, and struggle that went into it.
Square quilt showing red circles on a background of different shades of pink
Drunkard's path quilt in red and pink. Another exercise in a limited color palette, traditional quilting patterns, and curved piecing. I should have foreseen that it would look like pepperoni on pizza.

Pretty! Those colors are delightful for Spring.
Quilt made from half square triangles in shades of blue-green, ranging from deep teal to pale aqua and quilted with giant seaweed motifs
You know how repeating a word makes it lose meaning and seem nonsensical? That's how I feel about color after trying to explore it. "What is turquoise and teal?" I don't know. But here's the quilt I came up with.

I started with the flying geese in the center. After making about 120, I got tired of it and put it away until the motivation returned. It never did.
I finally sewed them together last month and added a wide border - an oversized log cabin.
Pink and mint green quilt featuring flying geese in the center with log cabin borders
I just finished this quilt (started over two years ago) for a friend whose favorite colors are mint green and pink. #flyinggeese #logcabinquilt
Quilt with ochre color palette ranging from dark brown to cream using abstract organic shapes that look like rocks
I keep calling this my "Rock Quilt" in my head. I assigned myself a design challenge to use: (1) a non preferred color palette; (2) larger scale shapes; and (3) improvise curves. It's about 60"x70", but feels like a little sketch.

Purple scrap quilt: I'm playing with the concept of big borders framing smaller central motifs.

Does anybody have a recommendation for an affordable and reliable mid- or long-arm quilting machine? I don't need any bells and whistles: just a roomy throat length and clearance.
I bought a Little Rebel last year. It's broken down twice in the first 14 months I've had it. I'm so annoyed.
You have enough to start! You can always buy more later if you want to make it bigger.
It's fine. It can also be helpful for subtly directing visual flow
Amazing. Pre-interfaced satin sounds like a game changer for heavy linings. This is going to be an incredible cape!
This is SO beautiful! You've put so much thought into details. What's the interlining between the lining and fabric? It looks so plush that I'm assuming there's some interlining here.
My inside voice shouts "That's a COLLAGE - NOT A QUILT!" I like collage. But collage is not quilting.
Making quilts is largely an exercise in self-delusion and stubbornness. I always think my next project won't take very long.
The quilt top: after assembly before quilting showing dark green circles on a light brown background.
I really enjoy comparing the work in progress with the final. Quilting is such a process-oriented medium. The quilting and binding transforms the pieces in surprising and interesting ways. It adds something in the textured overlay and removes details like seams.

I forgot to share this one earlier: Butler Valley, AZ (Fondamonte), completed Sept 2025.
The first of the "land use policy" series. Maybe I should think of a less dry-sounding title for the series? It makes it sound so boring.

A quilt using shades of green with narrow insertions of chartreuse in straight lines to represent exurban housing development
"Exurbia" (from the ongoing Land Use Policy series): a quilted meditation on housing growth through subdividing land. The straight line cuts break the fabric. But the fabrics continue to change and increase in complexity with those cuts.

A quilt pieced to look like a sheet of lined paper with quilted words quoting from the Declaration of Independence
I just finished binding this second iteration of the Declaration of Independence.
I think I'm going to push the next version towards increased verisimilitude and legibility on the next version.

That's very true about needing time. I think it came out different from my expectations. I think I'll need the time to release those expectations and look at it with a different perspective.

Double wedding ring quilt with gold inserts
I like to work in variations on a theme.
I made the blue and white double wedding ring on the left in 2024. It reminded me of plates, so I tried inserting gold like kintsugi on the second one (on the right).
I guess the series is still in progress...

Blue and white quilt with gold accents in a double wedding ring pattern.
I'm disappointed. It isn't what I hoped for. I've been dragging my feet on quilting and then binding it. It's fine. It's just not exciting or interesting.
I wanted it to evoke china plates and kintsugi. Maybe I need to simplify it further? Fewer fabrics next time?

Wow. That map is incredible. Thank you so much for sharing all of these. It's so inspiring to see so many people making powerful and emotional art.
I love this public art piece. It's ephemeral, interactive, meaningful, and moving.
It's very beautiful and now you know how to successfully achieve a flat embroidered image if you need that effect in the future.
I'm intrigued by this thesis because the nude female form represented in classical through baroque eras often look like male bodies with two scoops of ice cream appended to symbolize breasts.
Argh. This title makes me rage. "Even the quilters"? Quilting has been one of the only acceptable forms of political expression and activism for women for centuries. The history of the craft is steeped in protest. The title should have been "even the cat butt drumming communities."
