Another fresh preprint from the lab!

Menarche marks an inflection point for female brain and mental health trajectories. This milestone may identify a critical window for screening.

This is an effect you don't need stats to see (though we did those too).

Very excited to announce our new preprint, led by @hollysully.bsky.social, that presents, benchmarks, and validates a method to estimate brain iron content from routine fMRI scans!

It comes complete with a BIDS app!

Updated preprint: doi.org/10.1101/2025...

We have improved DELSSOME and showed that we can accelerate the estimation of two new biophysical models. By collating 12,005 individuals, we derive normative trajectories of cortical E/I ratio across the lifespan ...

We think of white matter as the highways of the brain. But when we followed development along those highways, we were surprised. The journey is more complex than we thought. My final PhD paper, “Two Axes of White Matter Development”, is now out in @natcomms.nature.com! 🛣️🧠✨

Anatomical White Matter Tracts Span the Cortical Hierarchy to Support Cognitive Diversity Long-range white matter (WM) tracts support cognition by enabling communication between distant cortical regions, which are organized along a hierarchy defined by the sensorimotor-to-association (S-A)...

Ever wondered how white matter tracts actually map onto the cortical hierarchy and cognition—beyond the usual “projection vs association” labels?
Our new preprint tackles exactly that! 🧠✨ doi.org/10.64898/202...

Is the “standard workflow” holding back fMRI analysis?

Mass-univariate analysis is still the bread-and-butter: intuitive, fast… and chronically overfitted. Add harsh multiple-comparison penalties, and we patch the workflow with statistical band-aids. No wonder the stringency debates never die.

I can't recommend this fantastic new review from @valeriejsydnor.bsky.social enough! It does an amazing job of synthesizing the current state of the literature and then looking forward to provide a fresh perspective on how to move this work forward in humans. Check it out!

Tonight an unbelievable **34,000 people** gathered for our Denver rally to take on billionaires and win our country back.

This was the largest political gathering in Denver since Obama in 2008.

Also bigger than the 2024 DNC.

And the largest ever rally in Bernie’s career (and obviously, mine too).

Indirect Costs at NIH . . . I wasn’t planning on spending part of a Saturday writing about cost accounting principles and the like, but NIH-world was hit with a doozy of a policy announcement on Friday night:

For those who don't know, here are very real research costs that directs cannot cover - all fall within indirects: the buildings we work in (upkeep, maintenance, cleaning, etc), utilities, IT infrastructure, human resources, administrative staff, security, and lots more

hey -- i'm hiring a postdoc! the ad will be up shortly, but looking for someone with network neuroscience experience (very broadly). the position isn't tied to any specific project/grant, so lots of flexibility in terms of what you'd actually *do*. hmu if you might be interested/want to learn more!
